UH, WE RAN INTO SEVERAL SCHEDULING ISSUES.
WE TRIED TO SCHEDULE THIS THING MULTIPLE TIMES, UM, AND OF COURSE THE, UH, THE WINTER STORM THREW US A, A RANCH AGAIN IN OUR EFFORTS, BUT GOING FORWARD, WE PLAN TO HAVE MORE OF THESE SESSIONS, BUT NOT ON FRIDAY.
SO I KNOW THAT WAS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR FOLKS.
UM, THAT SAID, I DO WANT TO SAY THAT I'M VERY EXCITED.
I THINK THIS IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO ENGAGE, UH, AND TALK ABOUT HOW WE CAN MAXIMIZE OUR EFFORTS OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS, THE DEPARTMENT IS GOING TO BE UNDERTAKING SEVERAL REALLY LARGE SCALE EFFORTS, AND I THINK IT WILL BE ESSENTIAL FOR US TO WORK VERY WELL TOGETHER.

I JUST WANT TO SAY, I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT THE COMMISSION DOES AND SUPPORT FOR THE DEPARTMENT.

THEY WANTED TO ENCOURAGE INNOVATION, UM, THINKING OUT OF THE BOX AND BRAINSTORMING TOGETHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GOAL SETTING AND FOLLOW UP PLANS AND INPUT FROM CSEC MEMBERS ON GOAL SETTING FOR EACH OF THE PROGRAMS THAT ARR PROVIDES.
AND IN PLANNING OUT SCHEDULES AND GOALS FOR SUBCOMMITTEES AND SCHEDULES FOR FUTURE MEETINGS.
THE SECOND PROMINENT THEME WAS INFORMATION SHARING, WHERE THEY, THE SURVEY SUGGESTED THAT WE HAVE DISCUSSIONS OF HOW WE MAKE DECISIONS.
HOW DO WE COLLECT AND SHARE INFORMATION WHICH WE ARE DOING TODAY? ALSO THOUGHTS ON HOW WE CAN HAVE A GREATER IMPACT, UM, DURING THESE MEETINGS, UH, TO RESPECT PERSONAL TIME, NO RETREATS OR WORKSHOPS ON FRIDAY EVENINGS, DULY NOTED.

THERE'S INCREASING COMMUNICATION.
THERE WAS A BIG APPRECIATION FOR PRESENTATIONS AND APPRECIATION FOR THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION SHARING AND COMMUNICATION THAT'S GOING ON.
NOW, AS FAR AS TEAMWORK, EVERYBODY SEEMED TO BE ON THE SAME PAGE ABOUT A COMMON GOAL TO MAKE THE CITY.
WE LOVE A BETTER PLACE AND ZERO WASTE GOALS.
UM, THERE WAS EXPRESSION OF HOW PEOPLE ARE PROUD OF THE COMPOST PROGRAM AND EXCITED ABOUT THE MULTIFAMILY COMPOST PILOT.

SO BASED ON THE SURVEY DATA, I WANT YOU TO PROPOSE IDEAS THAT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED TO ADDRESS THESE AREAS FOR GROWTH.
THINK IN TERMS OF IMMEDIATE IDEAS, SHORT TERM, WHICH IS THE NEXT SIX MONTHS TO A YEAR, AND THEN LONG-TERM, WHICH IS GOING TO BE OVER A YEAR AWAY.
SO AS WE'RE GOING OVER THE DATA, KEEP THAT IN MIND.
SO IDEAS FOR IMMEDIATE SHORT-TERM LONG-TERM OKAY, NEXT SLIDE.
SO THE SURVEY QUESTION, UM, REFERENCED AREAS FOR GROWTH, AND THERE WERE FIVE KEY AREAS THAT CAME UP IN THIS PART OF THE SURVEY.
THE FIRST ONE WAS RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND THE OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD TRUST.
LET'S MAKE AN ASSUMPTIONS, MORE KNOWLEDGE OF STAFF, INITIATIVES AND WORKLOAD, AND TO HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR ONE ANOTHER, THE SECOND ONE WAS ONBOARDING INCLUDING RESOURCES FOR MEMBERS.
SO FOR NEW INCOMING MEMBERS, THERE'S NOT A LOT OF BACKGROUND INFORMATION STRUCTURED IN A WAY THAT ALLOWS THEM TO GET UP TO SPEED.
FOR EXAMPLE, WHO WERE THE PLAYERS IN THE CITY, WHAT RULES, REGULATIONS, DISCUSSIONS, UH, WHEN WE WEIGH IN WHAT'S THE BUDGETING PROCESS AND HOW DO WE PARTICIPATE? AND WHAT'S OUR ROLE.
THE THIRD AREA THAT CAME UP IN THE SURVEY FOR GROWTH WAS INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE TO HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE SOLID WASTE INDUSTRY ISSUES AND CHALLENGES.
THINK THIS IS SIMILAR TO WHAT COMMISSIONER MANAGERS BROUGHT UP, UM, TO INFORM COMMISSIONERS ABOUT SPECIFIC PROGRAMS THAT ALSO CAME UP IN OUR PREVIOUS DISCUSSION.
THE FOURTH AREA FOR GROWTH IS TECHNOLOGY.
WE JUST HAVE CONSTANT TECHNICAL ISSUES.
AND THE RECOMMENDATION WAS TO SEE IF WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO USE ANOTHER PLATFORM, SEE WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WE HAVE OUT THERE.
AND THEN THE FIFTH AREA WAS IN REGARDS TO MEETINGS.

I REALLY WANT TO BE, UH, I REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO VOLUNTEER IN SOME OF THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE GOING ON.
UH, AND I THINK THAT WOULD HELP ME FEEL MORE CONNECTED IN, I WOULD LEARN MORE, I BELIEVE ALSO, AND HOPEFULLY GIVE, UM, MORE.

AND I THINK AS FAR AS THE, THE FUN PART IS CONCERNED, ALTHOUGH I'M NOT THE ONE THAT SUGGESTED THE FUN PART, BUT IF WE'RE GOING TO DO FUN AND MAYBE WHEN WE HAVE ONE ABROAD RETREATS IN PERSON, UH, MAYBE WE CAN BRING FOOD AND MAYBE THE COMMISSIONERS WOULD BRING MOST OF THE FOOD FOR EVERYONE.
IT COULD BE FOOD THAT WE RESCUE.
WE CAN DO SOME RECOVERY TOGETHER, BUT NOT OUT OF THE GREEN CONTAINER.
UM, AND NOW I FEEL LIKE I CAN ADMIT THIS BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ON THE COMMISSION A NUMBER OF YEARS, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON MY FIRST YEAR.
I HAD A, I HAVE A BINDER WITH A MASTER PLAN, BUT IT WAS A LOT OF FIGURING OUT AS I MOVED ALONG, LIKE, OKAY, WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT UNITS? WHAT IS EACH ONE DOING? UM, WHY ARE SOME RFPS IN THIS FORMAT? AND SOME OF THE OTHER, LIKE IT WAS A PROCESS TO GET TO BE, YOU KNOW, AT LEAST SOMEWHAT COMPETENT AND UNDERSTANDING WHAT WAS GOING ON.
UM, SO ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO HELP ONBOARD OUR NEW COMMISSIONERS I THINK WOULD BE HELPFUL.
