IT'S TUESDAY, MAY 16TH, 2023 AT 12:11 PM I WILL CALL TO ORDER THE AUSTIN CITY COUNCIL FOR A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AUSTIN CITY COUNCIL.

UH, THERE IS A NECESSARY QUORUM OF THE AUSTIN CITY COUNCIL, UH, FOR THIS MEETING.

WE ARE MEETING IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS AT 3 0 1 WEST SECOND STREET IN AUSTIN, TEXAS.

I DON'T BELIEVE WE HAVE ANYBODY ATTENDING VIRTUALLY DO WE? NOT AT THIS TIME, MAYOR.

OKAY, VERY GOOD.

UH, MEMBERS UNDER STATE LAW, ONLY TWO COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE NECESSARY FOR A QUORUM TO CANVAS AN ELECTION, AND WE HAVE, UH, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL HERE WITH US.

[1. Approve a resolution canvassing the results of the May 6, 2023 election]

WE WILL NOW TAKE UP ITEM NUMBER ONE TO APPROVE A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RESULTS OF THE MAY 6TH, 2023 SPECIAL ELECTIONS IN THE SPECIAL ELECTIONS.

THE RETURN OF THE ELECTIONS SHOW THAT THERE WERE 5 3 50 3,258 VOTES IN FAVOR, OR FOUR AND 13,931 VOTES AGAINST PROPOSITION A.

THERE WERE 12,951 VOTES FOUR AND 53,415 VOTES AGAINST PROPOSITION B.

BEFORE WE TAKE UP A MOTION ON THIS ITEM, LET ME ASK THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO HAS SIGNED UP TO SPEAK ON THIS ITEM.

MAYOR, WE DON'T HAVE ANYONE SIGNED UP TO SPEAK.

UH, THAT BEING THE CASE, THE CHAIR WILL ENTERTAIN THE FOLLOWING MOTION TO APPROVE THE RESOLUTION, CANVASSING AND ACCEPTING THE RETURNS FOR THE MAY 6TH, 2023 SPECIAL ELECTIONS DECLARING PROPOSITION A IS ADOPTED AND DECLARING PROPOSITION B IS NOT ADOPTED.

THE MAYOR PRO 10, UH, MOVES PASSAGE IN IS SECONDED BY COUNCIL MEMBER CADRE.

I THINK AUSTINITES HAVE MADE IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT AUSTINITES WANT A ACCOUNTABLE AND TRANSPARENT AND ROBUST POLICE OVERSIGHT SYSTEM.

SO I LOOK FORWARD TO THE CONVERSATIONS WE'LL HAVE AS A COUNCIL ON THIS SUBJECT.

BUT JUST WANNA THANK EVERYONE AND FOR PARTICIPATING FOR VOTING AND FOR MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD ON THIS ISSUE.

MEMBERS, WE WILL NOW GO IN, UH, INTO A CLOSED SESSION TO TAKE UP ONE ITEM PURSUANT TO SECTION 5 51 0 71 OF THE GOVERNMENT CODE.

THE CITY COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS LEGAL ISSUES RELATED TO ITEM NUMBER TWO, THE MAY, 2023 ELECTION.

IS THERE ANY OBJECTION TO GOING INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION ON THE ITEM THAT'S ANNOUNCED? HEARING NONE, THE COUNCIL WILL NOW GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION.

OUT OF CLOSED SESSION.

IN CLOSED SESSION, WE DISCUSSED LEGAL ITEMS RELATED TO ITEM NUMBER TWO, THE MAY, 2023 ELECTION.

WITHOUT OBJECTION, THE CITY COUNCIL OF AUSTIN, TEXAS IS ADJOURNED FROM THIS SPECIAL CALLED MEETING.
