[00:00:04] UH, COMMISSIONERS. [CALL TO ORDER] WE ARE GOING TO START THE DECEMBER 11TH MEETING OF THE AUSTIN TOURISM COMMISSION. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. UM, WE DO NOT HAVE, UH, PUBLIC COMMUNICATION TODAY. THERE ARE NO, UM, SPEAKERS SIGNED UP TO SPEAK. UH, ADDITIONALLY, UM, I MOVE TO [APPROVAL OF MINUTES] THE FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 13TH, 2024, UH, MEETING OF THE AUSTIN TOURISM COMMISSION. DO I HAVE A MOTION? A MOTION HAS BEEN PUT FORWARD BY COMMISSIONER CHANIN. IS THERE A SECOND? I SECOND. SO SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER PENOC DISCUSSION. HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? UH, MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY. THANK YOU. WE NOW MOVE FORWARD WITH AGENDA ITEM NUMBER TWO, [2. Staff briefing from Staff Liaison, Felicia Ojeda, regarding the vacancy and updates on city policy and guidelines for commissions.] UH, STAFF BRIEFING FROM STAFF LIAISON MS. FELICIA, UH, WHO WILL SPEAK TO, UH, VACANCIES, AS WELL AS ANY UPDATES FROM THE CLERK'S OFFICE REGARDING, UH, POLICIES AND GUIDELINES FOR COMMISSIONS. YEAH, THIS IS, UM, MORE OF A REMINDER. WE HAVE DISTRICT FOUR AND 10 STILL VACANT. UM, OH, I DO REMEMBER THAT FEBRUARY. THERE WILL BE A LOT OF CHANGES IN, UM, CITY COUNCIL OF THE TERMS BEING, UM, COMPLETED. SO, BUT YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO, UM, STAY ON THE COMMISSION UNTIL, UM, YOUR NEW REPLACEMENT COMES, OR UNTIL THEY TELL YOU, UM, THAT YOU ARE NO LONGER, YOUR SERVICES ARE NO LONGER NEEDED. UM, DO WANNA SAY, I KNOW THAT, UM, EMAILS ARE PRETTY IMPORTANT TO Y'ALL AND HOW Y'ALL GET 'EM. WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE NOT FORWARDING YOUR EMAILS TO YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL BECAUSE SOME DOCUMENTS ARE JUST CITY, UM, INFORMATION THAT NEEDS TO STAY WITH THE CITY ACCOUNT. UM, IF YOU ARE DOING THAT, YOU MAY NOT GET IT AND, AND YOU MIGHT MISS OUT ON SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION. ES ESPECIALLY FROM CITY CLERK'S OFFICE. UH, THE VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE, IF YOU ARE ONLINE VIRTUALLY, YOU DO NEED TO SIGN THE ATTENDANCE SHEET THAT I SEND IN THE EMAILS. UM, THIS COUNTS FOR YOUR ATTENDANCE. IF YOU DON'T GIVE ME THAT, UM, WITHIN OUR NEXT MEETING DATE, THEN YOU WILL BE COUNTED ABSENT. THAT IS, UM, PER CITY CLERK'S OFFICE. SO THAT'S JUST, UM, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF UPDATED REMINDER. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. UM, MS. OJEDA AND YOUR, YOUR FULL LAST NAME NOW IS MS. OJEDA, BURLESON. BURLESON, EXCUSE ME, MS. OJEDA BURLESON. WE'LL MAKE SURE TO CORRECT THAT FOR THE NEW, UH, AGENDA FOR JANUARY. MOVING ON TO [3. Discussion on attributes for new Tourism Commission appointees and strategies for their approval.] OUR DISCUSSION ITEMS FOR TODAY. DISCUSSION ITEM NUMBER THREE REGARDING, UH, DISCUSSION, UH, REGARDING ATTRIBUTES FOR NEW TOURISM COMMISSION APPOINTEES, AND STRATEGIES FOR, UH, THEIR APPROVAL. UH, SO THIS IS ON THE AGENDA TO, UH, ESSENTIALLY REVISIT THE TOPIC OF OUR VACANCIES IN DISTRICTS FOUR AND 10. UM, AND ALSO I THINK THIS TOPIC IS VERY MUCH TIMELY AS WE APPROACH THE END OF CERTAIN COMMISSIONER'S TERMS. I, I DON'T HAVE A HARD HANDLE ON WHO IS GOING TO BE LEAVING, UH, THE COMMISSION, BUT I THOUGHT IT'D BE A GOOD EXERCISE TO SPEAK TO, UH, SPACES OF REPRESENTATION THAT ARE, OR THAT THAT COULD HELP ENHANCE THE PERSPECTIVES AS REFLECTED ON THE TOURISM COMMISSION. SO WITH THAT, I OPEN THE FLOOR TO ANYONE WHO HAS SOME, UH, IDEAS OR CONTRIBUTIONS THEY'D LIKE TO ADD ACTION. MAYBE WE'LL START WITH WHO'S ON THE COMMISSION CURRENTLY, AND, UH, WE CAN SORT OF GIVE A SENSE OF THEIR PERSPECTIVES. UM, OR, OR WHO'S ROLLING OFF OR WHO'S ROLLING OFF. DOES ANYONE, UM, KNOW WHEN THEY ARE ROLLING OFF? AND IF IT'S IT WITHIN THE NEXT THREE TO FOUR MONTHS, I CAN ALSO LOOK THAT UP. COMMISSIONER PINO AGAIN. UM, MY TERM IS, UH, COMING UP BECAUSE THE MAYOR'S TERM ENDED, BUT SINCE HE'S BEEN REELECTED, I'VE, UM, RESUBMITTED THE APPLICATION. [00:05:02] SO HOPEFULLY I WILL STAY ON NEXT YEAR. BUT, UM, IT'S TBD. THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER POSI AND COMMISSIONER CHA. SO I, I WAS UNAWARE, DO YOU NEED TO RESUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOUR COUNCIL MEMBER'S BEEN ELECTED? REELECTED? YES. YOU'LL SUBMIT THAT ALONG. OKAY. SO, YEAH, THAT'S A GOOD, THAT'S A GOOD SORT OF HOUSEKEEPING, UM, ITEM TO POINT OUT, YOU DO HAVE TO RESUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION FOR, UH, RE-APPROVAL TO THE CLERK'S OFFICE AND YOU SHOULD GET AN EMAIL. OKAY. AND IF YOU'VE DONE THE TRAINING RECENTLY, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, UH, MS. OELA BURLESON, BUT WE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THE TRAINING ONCE AGAIN, IS THAT CORRECT? NO. IF IT'S WITHIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. YEAH, I WAS, I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER WHAT YOU WERE ASKING. I WAS TRYING TO TELL, HEAR WHAT YOU WERE ASKING, BUT ONCE YOU'RE ON A COMMITTEE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THE TRAINING. OKAY. AND THAT GOES FOR THE ETHICS TRAINING AS WELL AS THE SEXUAL NON HARASSMENT TRAINING. WHAT THEY NEED, YOU MIGHT NEED TO DO THE ETHICS, YOU MIGHT NEED TO DO THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT. OKAY. OKAY. UM, ANYONE ELSE? IT LOOKS AS IF, UM, BISHOP AS WELL, WHO IS ACTUALLY UNDER THE WEATHER TODAY AND COULDN'T MAKE IT. LAST MINUTE IS UP FOR RENEWAL, UM, IN FEBRUARY, AS IS COMMISSIONER PIAN RATHER. COMMISSIONER CHAPLA AND COMMISSIONER PIAN. AND, UH, COMMISSIONER BAAN, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE ALSO UP FOR RENEWAL FOR D ONE. DANIEL, YOU HAVE A QUESTION? COMMISSIONER REY? I, UH, YEAH, MY COUNCIL MEMBER IS TERM LIMITED AND, UM, MY TERM ENDS ON FEBRUARY 28TH. I MAY APPLY AGAIN DEPENDING ON WHO WINS IN D SEVEN AND, UM, BUT EVEN IF THAT HAPPENS, I HAVE ONLY ONE YEAR LEFT OF ELIGIBILITY BEFORE THE EIGHT YEAR TERM LIMIT. THANK YOU FOR LETTING US KNOW. SO IT'S UP IN THE AIR FOR ME. ALRIGHT. UM, SO IT LOOKS LIKE FEASIBLY WE'LL HAVE, UM, THREE TO FOUR OR UPWARDS, UPWARDS OF THREE TO FOUR, UH, NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER OPENINGS NEXT YEAR FOR THE COMMISSION. UM, SO I, I THINK HISTORICALLY WE'VE BEEN A PRETTY WELL-ROUNDED GROUP. WE HAVE FOLKS FROM HOTELS, UM, THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, UM, ARTS AND CULTURE. UH, IN ADDITION, WE HAVE LEGAL, IF I CAN COUNT THAT FOR COMMISSIONER CHANIN, UM, TECH CITIZEN AT LARGE. UM, UH, I BELIEVE COMMISSIONER CHAPEL IS, UM, OUR HEALTHCARE REPRESENTATIVE GENERALLY, BUT I KNOW HE'S LOOKING FOR A NEW ROLE, SO MAYBE ANOTHER CITIZEN AT LARGE. UM, ONE OF THE ITEMS THAT I'VE SEEN, OR TOPICS OR CHARACTERISTICS THAT I'VE SEEN THAT COULD BE PERHAPS ENHANCED IS REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE CULINARY SECTOR, UM, AND, UH, A HOTEL, HOTEL COMMISSIONER MATHIS. YEP. SALES AND UHHUH. SO WE'VE SPORTS AMUSEMENTS. NOW. MY PEN IS FINALLY WORKING. THANK YOU . UM, AND, UH, WE HAD A, A REPRESENTATIVE OF PARKS. THANK YOU. UM, IN COMMISSIONER KTI, COMMISSIONER KTI RECENTLY STEPPED OFF. SO PERHAPS SOMEONE IN PARKS IN OPEN SPACE. ALL RIGHT. ANY OTHERS SPECIAL EVENTS? MAYBE GOT OUR ACL REPRESENTATIVE HERE. THANK YOU. PROBABLY IT. OKAY. I DON'T THINK YOU MENTIONED THIS ARTS. WE DID ARTS AND CULTURE. YEAH. YEAH. MUSEUMS AS WELL. UM, UH, AND LABOR AS WELL. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE DIDN'T FORGET COMMISSIONER BAAN. UM, AND IF AT ANY POINT YOU HAVE SUGGESTIONS AS TO DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS OR ROLES, UH, YOU THINK COMM COMMISSIONERS SHOULD HAVE OR YOU'D PREFER THAT THEY HAVE, LET ME KNOW. UM, I THINK AS WE SETTLE INTO THE NEW COUNCIL NEXT [00:10:01] YEAR, IT'D BE A GOOD TIME TO REVISIT OUR, UH, CONVERSATIONS WITH COUNCIL MEMBERS IN THEIR OFFICES TO, UH, BE SURE TO FILL THEIR VACANCIES ON COMMISSIONS. UM, FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MAY HAVE SEEN THE ARTICLE THREE DAYS AGO IN THE AUSTIN MONITOR, THERE'S BEEN AN INITIATIVE PARTICULARLY FROM, UH, COMM, EXCUSE ME, COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN ALTER'S OFFICE TO TAKE A LOOK AT BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS AND HOW THEY'RE BEING STAFFED, AS WELL AS HOW THEIR, UH, VACANCIES ARE BEING FILLED. UH, WHICH COMMISSIONS AND BOARDS ARE, UH, CURRENTLY ACTIVE, HOW TO REENGAGE THEM, HOW TO BRING THEM, UH, UP TO FULL PARTICIPATORY, UM, USE FOR BOTH, UH, THE CITIZENS THAT SERVE ON THEM, BUT ALSO, UH, ASSISTING IN PROVIDING GOOD COUNSEL AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO CITY COUNCIL THAT YOU KNOW, IS OF VALUE AND CAN REALLY HELP, UM, ENHANCE THE EXPERTISE AND CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'RE HAVING AT A CITY POLICY LEVEL. SO, UH, HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO READ THAT THERE WAS, UM, PREVIOUSLY A, UH, AN AUDIT CONDUCTED BY THE CITY, UH, TO LOOK AT BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS IN WAYS TO MAKE THEM MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE. GREAT. I BELIEVE THAT SETTLES, UH, DISCUSSION NUMBER ITEM THREE. WE NOW MOVE ON TO [4. Discussion and possible action to set road map for 2025 Tourism Commission Meetings] DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS, UH, DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION. UH, TO SET THE ROADMAP FOR THE 25, UH, 2025 TOURISM COMMISSION MEETINGS, YOU WILL FIND IN YOUR COMMISSIONERS' PACKET THE WORKING DOCUMENT OF THE TOURISM, UM, COMMISSION ROADMAP THAT REALLY POINTS TO THE TOPICS THAT WE COULD POSSIBLY ADDRESS IN THE COMING YEAR. UH, I'D LIKE TO, TO BRING THIS GENERALLY TO YOUR ATTENTION AS, UH, A JUMPING OFF POINT FOR DISCUSSIONS TODAY. UH, WE'VE SCHEDULED THIS MEETING TO BE A, A BROADER WORK SESSION OR A WORK SHOPPING, IF YOU WILL, OF WHAT TOPICS MIGHT, UH, ALLOW US TO MOVE FORWARD AS A BODY WITH A PURPOSE IN 2025 AS WE VISIT TOPICS THAT INTERSECT WITH TOURISM. AND REALLY, THESE ARE, THESE ARE JUST IDEAS AND IT'S, IT'S UP TO, UH, FELLOW COMMISSIONERS WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE, UH, LISTED. UM, I FIND THAT THE WAY THAT I'VE LAID IT OUT HERE, UM, TRIES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PARTICULAR TIMES IN THE YEAR WHEN, UM, THERE MIGHT BE COROLLARY CONVERSATIONS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY THAT HELP UPLIFT SOME OF THESE NARRATIVES, UM, THAT WE CAN REALLY BRING PUBLIC ATTENTION TO. THE TOPICS IS LISTED, UH, ESPECIALLY MAY, 2025, CELEBRATING NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK. UM, PEOPLE LIKE TO GET OUTSIDE IN THE SUMMER, SO WE'VE GOT PARKS AND GREEN SPACE IN JULY. HOWEVER, ON SECOND THOUGHT. I DON'T KNOW IF FOLKS WANNA BE OUTSIDE IN THE MONTH OF JULY. UH, BUT, UH, ALL THIS TO SAY THAT THIS IS A WORKING DOCUMENT AS, AS STATED HERE, IS PROPOSED, AND I WELCOME YOUR THOUGHTS, UH, RUMINATIONS AND IDEAS TO MAKE THIS A ROADMAP FOR HOW WE ADDRESS TOURISM TOPICS IN 2025. WITH THAT, I WELCOME COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS, VICE CHAIR BAILEY. UH, JUST I WANT TO QUESTION, UH, THIS NUMBER TWO, THE FEBRUARY 25 IS, IS THAT A NEW AD? I, I JUST DON'T KNOW IF I REMEMBER THAT BEING ON A, A PREVIOUS ITERATION. IS THAT SOMETHING NEW? OR IS, AND EVEN IF IT IS, UM, I JUST WANNA REVISIT, UM, WHAT YOU THINK THAT MIGHT LOOK LIKE, WHAT WE THINK IT MIGHT LOOK LIKE. I GET THE STR WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THAT FOR A LONG TIME, BUT THE BONDS FOR TOURISM DESTINATION, THAT'S, THAT'S KIND OF AN INTERESTING NEW TOPIC, SO I'M JUST CURIOUS WHERE THAT CAME FROM. SURE. I, THE MEDIATION, I GUESS I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN ON THE AGENDA FOR RATHER AS A PART OF THIS OKAY. UM, DOCUMENT FOR AT LEAST TWO MONTHS. UH, BUT, UM, FEBRUARY, 2025, IT'LL BE A YEAR SINCE WE ISSUED OUR UNANIMOUS RECOMMENDATIONS, UH, FOR SHORT TERM RENTALS HERE IN AUSTIN. REALLY? A YEAR. REALLY? YES. WOW. , TIME FLIES. FAIR ENOUGH. . GOOD. GOOD POINT. SO I THINK IT'S A GOOD TIME TO CHECK IN FOR SURE. UM, ALSO, I REMEMBER THAT, ARE YOU SURE WE DID THAT IN FEBRUARY? YES. I WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE AGENDA BECAUSE THIS MORNING WHEN WE MET WITH THE MAYOR, I'M LIKE, I THINK IT'S BEEN A SIX MONTH DISCUSSION, WHICH IT'S BEEN A YEAR. YEAH. YEAH, IT'S BEEN A YEAR. UM, TIME CERTAINLY DOES FLY [00:15:01] . UM, BUT, UH, I, AND THAT'S GREAT THAT, UM, YOU'VE HAD A CONVERSATION WITH THE MAYOR'S OFFICE. WE'LL LOVE TO, UH, HAVE THAT UPDATE IN THE, UH, SHORT TERM RENTAL WORKING GROUP AGENDA ITEM NUMBER SIX. UM, BUT I, I THINK IT'LL BE A GOOD, UM, TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION. ALSO, UM, BONDS FOR OUR TOURISM DESTINATIONS. I THINK THIS IS RELATED TO, UM, IN GENERAL AS A FOLLOW UP TO OUR CONVERSATION, FOR INSTANCE, WITH THE DOHERTY ARTS CENTER LOOKING TO FUND, UH, ARTS CULTURE, TOURISM DESTINATIONS, HISTORIC DESTINATIONS THAT CAN HELP, UM, ELEVATE TOURISM HERE IN AUSTIN. UM, SO THAT'S, YOU KNOW, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN THEN. IT CAN BE A LITTLE BIT LATER IN THE YEAR. HOWEVER, I AM TOLD THROUGH MY CONTEXT OF THE CITY THAT PRETTY MUCH THE, YOU KNOW, THE BONDS PACKAGE IS GONNA BE SET BY MAY OF NEXT YEAR. SO TO BE A PART OF THAT CONVERSATION, I THINK IT'S BETTER TO HAVE IT EARLIER RATHER THAN LATER. OKAY. THAT SOUNDS GOOD. NOW THIS IS VERY HELPFUL. I I WAS NOT, YEAH, QUESTION. I WAS TRYING TO EDUCATE THE, THE ONLY SURE. THE ONLY ADD TO THIS, UM, THAT I THINK IS IMPORTANT IN, IN FIGURING OUT WHICH ONE OF THESE, BUT TALKING TO THE STATE OF TEXAS TOURISM ABOUT WHAT THE STATE OF TEXAS TOURISM EFFORTS AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING, WHAT THEIR OUTLOOK IS, WHERE DOES TEXAS FIT IN DESTINATION WORLD VERSUS SOME OF THE OTHER UNITED STATES? I THINK IT'D BE GOOD TO GET AN UPDATE ON HOW THEY'RE VIEWING THEIR WORK AND EFFORTS OF OUTREACH, HOW THE STATE LEGISLATURE, WHICH WILL BE IN ENFORCED NEXT YEAR, HOW THEY'RE LOOKING AT BUDGET GROWTH. WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO GET BUDGET GROWTH? WHAT STRATEGIES OR DEFENSE ARE THEY USING TO TRY TO GROW BUDGETS TO THE DEGREE THAT THEY ARE. YEP. AND THEN WE CAN, THERE'S A TRICKLE DOWN, OF COURSE, OF WHAT DOES THAT MEAN AS THE STATE CAPITAL AND BEING AUSTIN, BEING AUSTIN. BUT I JUST, AND SO I DON'T KNOW WHETHER OR NOT, YOU KNOW, JANUARY, I'M TRYING TO THINK WHICH OF THESE TUCKS NEATLY. I DON'T THINK WE NECESSARILY HAVE TO BRING THE STATE AND AUSTIN IN AT THE SAME TIME, BUT THAT, THAT COULD BE A SESSION WHERE WE LOOK MACRO, LOOK MICRO IN TERMS OF BUDGET AND EFFORTS AND WHAT CAMPAIGNS AND WHAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING. I THINK, UM, THE OTHER THING THAT THE, WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE AIRPORT, I THINK IS, AND, AND AIRLINES, I THINK IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO OUR WORK. SO, I MEAN, I'D LOVE, AGAIN, I DON'T, I DON'T KNOW WHERE, IF WE DOUBLE UP ON ONE OF THESE TOPICS OR WE STRIKE ONE AND CREATE A NEW TOPIC. BUT THESE ARE AREAS THAT I THINK IN 25 ARE REALLY IMPORTANT. THE CONVENTION CENTER'S GOING DOWN, THE AIRPORT IS STRAINING AT THE SEAMS, AND THERE'S PLAN BIG PLANS TO MAKE IT BIGGER. AND WE SHOULD, YOU KNOW, TRACK WHAT IS HAPPENING AND THE POTENTIAL TOMORROW OF THE TPI BEING PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, THAT'S DEFINITELY AFFECTS THE MARKETING OF THE CITY. UM, AND WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN IN THE VERY FIRST YEAR OF THE CENTER GOING OFFLINE? I THINK SO. I MEAN, I KIND OF FEEL, I'D LOVE TO GET SOME OF THAT INFORMATION EARLY ON. I DON'T KNOW IF JANUARY IS AGGRESSIVE IN TERMS OF EVERYBODY BEING ABLE TO SHOW UP AND HAVE THAT. SO THAT'S PART OF WHAT I WANTED TO BRING OUT TOO, IS LIKE, SOMETIMES WE INVITE PEOPLE TO COME AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE TIME THEY NEED. AND I DID SEE ONE OF THE REQUESTS WE HAD, LIKE, WHAT DO THEY WANT US TO TALK ABOUT IN JANUARY? RIGHT? SO I, I JUST WANNA MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN GET THE INFORMATION WE NEED BECAUSE WE'RE ASKING FOR IT WHEN THEY HAVE IT, WHEN THEY HAVE THE INFORMATION. SO IF, IF TEXAS DOESN'T HAVE THEIR BUDGET TOGETHER AND THEIR TOURISM DIRECTOR OR WHATEVER, AND WE ASK THEM TO COME DOWN HERE, I JUST WANNA MAKE SURE WE'RE FINDING OUT WHAT THE RIGHT TIME TO HAVE THAT CONVERSATION IS IN YOUR SURE. ALL GOOD POINTS. VICE CHAIR BAILEY? UH, I WOULD, I WOULD SAY THAT, YES, THERE'S, OH, COMMISSIONER JANET. SO I WAS JUST GONNA ADD, YOU BROUGHT UP THE TPI. IT'LL, IT'LL GO IN HOPEFULLY, I BELIEVE WILL BE, BE PASSED, FINALLY IMPLEMENTED TOMORROW. BUT IT WILL, THEY'RE POINTING, A NEW BOARD WILL BE UP AND RUNNING. THEY'LL NEED A LITTLE TIME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND HOW THEY'RE SPENDING IT AND JUST WOULD, SO YOU NEED TO LE LEAVE SOME LEEWAY THERE. SO WE HAVE AT LEAST SOME VALUABLE INFORMATION. BUT PLUS WHAT, YOU KNOW, THE MAIN THING I THINK IS HAPPENING IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN IS GONNA AFFECT AT LEAST, UM, A LOT OF TOURISM IS THE CONVENTION CENTER GOING DOWN AND, AND THE PLANS THAT ARE BEING, UH, UNDERTAKEN TO, UH, MITIGATE THAT. YEP. THET PITS PART OF THAT BIG PART OF IT. THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER CHAAN. [00:20:01] ANY OTHER COMMENTS? COMMISSIONER PENOC? I WAS JUST GONNA RECOMMEND THAT MAYBE NEXT TO EACH ONE OF THE TOPIC ITEMS WE WANNA DISCUSS FOR THAT MONTH, THAT WE, UM, MAYBE WRITE DOWN THE STAKEHOLDERS WHO WOULD BE PRESENTING ON THAT PARTICULAR TOPIC. YEAH, SOUNDS GOOD. SOME CASES THERE MIGHT BE MORE THAN ONE STAKEHOLDER. SO VICE CHAIR BAILEY. UM, THIS IS RHETORICAL, I'M ASKING IT OUT LOUD. ANY, IT'S A JUMP BALL FOR ANYBODY TO ANSWER IF THEY HAVE AN OPINION, BUT WHAT DO WE THINK THE CONSTRUCTION OF I 35 THROUGH THE THROUGH AND AROUND AUSTIN IS GONNA HAVE ON? DOES THAT IMPACT TOURISM? I MEAN, DO WE THINK, I'M NOT GOING BY THERE. , , I'M JUST WONDERING. I MEAN, NOBODY WANTS TO TOUCH IT, BUT I MEAN, WHAT HAPPENS IF I 35 BECOMES GRIDLOCK THROUGH THE HEART OF THE CITY? DO PEOPLE, THE WORD GOES OUT, IT'S GONNA BE THAT WAY FOR A YEAR AND A HALF OR TWO YEARS. DOES THAT SHIFT DRIVE IN TRAFFIC TO THE CITY? DOES IT NOT AFFECT IT AT ALL? WHO EVEN MONITORS SUCH A THING? I DON'T KNOW, BUT I, I FEEL LIKE IT'S CONSEQUENTIAL. I THINK I FEEL LIKE IT'S CONSEQUENTIAL ON SOME LEVEL, BUT I, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO, I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT FALLS. IF IT'S CITIES THAT TYPICALLY DO DAY TRIPS INTO AUSTIN, DOES IT, PEOPLE SAY, AH, 9 35 IS A MESS, DON'T GO THERE. I DON'T KNOW. THANK YOU. VICE CHAIR, BAILEY, ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR THOUGHTS ON THIS AGENDA? I HAVE SOME COMMISSIONER REEDY. I, I REALLY JUST WANT TO, UH, ADD THAT I SUPPORT COMMISSIONER BAILEY'S, UH, POINT ABOUT DISCUSSING I 35 AND MAYBE ASKING FOR, OR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO KEEPS TRACK OF THAT. BECAUSE, UM, IF YOU LOOK AT THE MOPAC EXPANSION, IT WAS ABOUT TWICE AS LONG AS WE WERE TOLD. SO I 35 IS POTENTIALLY A DECADE LONG OBSTRUCTION OF TRAFFIC THROUGH THE CENTRAL PART OF THE CITY AND THE CENTRAL ARTERY THAT FEEDS THE CONVENTION CENTER AS WELL. YOU CAN'T REALLY GET TO THE CONVENTION CENTER EASILY UNLESS YOU TAKE 35. SO I THINK IT'S CRUCIAL. AND I, I THINK WE SHOULD PUT THAT ON, ON THE LIST. THANK YOU. COMMISSIONER REEDY, VICE CHAIR BAILEY. UM, WELL, WHILE I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT, I WROTE DOWN LEGISLATURE IN SESSION, AND I KNOW THAT WHAT I REFERENCED IN MY PREVIOUS COMMENT WAS MORE TO DO WITH FUNDING OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM, UH, BUDGETING AND APPROACH. BUT I GUESS WITH THE LEGISLATION SESSION, WHATEVER THE TEXAS HOTEL LOBBY ASSOCIATION HAS IN MIND, I MEAN, YOU CAN BE CERTAIN THAT MAYBE WE COULD SCOPE OUT AND SAY WITH LEGISLATURE IN SESSION, HOW IS THE TEXAS TOURISM ECONOMY AND THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, HOW ARE THEY POISED AND WHAT IS THEIR AGENDA FOR THIS LEGISLATIVE SESSION? WHAT ARE THE RIGHT THERE? THERE'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING THERE ALWAYS IS FOR, YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY LINES UP. SO I'M, I'M CURIOUS OF THE BODIES THAT ARE GONNA PREVAIL ON WHILE THEY'RE IN SESSION, WHAT THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY AND THE TOURISM INDUSTRIES ARE DOING TO IMPACT FUNDING AND OR OTHER LEGISLATION. THANK YOU. VICE CHAIR BAILEY. I HAD LIKE TO ADD, UM, ALSO KEEPING THE CONVERSATION AROUND HEALTH, UH, AS WE HAD A PRESENTER LESS A COUPLE PRESENTERS LAST MEETING WITH REGARD TO SMOKING AND VAPING IN BARS AND CONCERT VENUES. UH, UM, I, I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO REVISIT, UM, WITH MORE, UH, WORK WITH OUR COMMUNITY TOURISM PARTNERS. SOMETHING THAT ALSO I NEEDS THOUGHT FROM MY PERSPECTIVE IS PERHAPS GIVING A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME FOR THE CONVENTION CENTER, UH, MAYBE PUSHING IT TO FEBRUARY AND HAVING, UH, AS YOU SUGGEST VICE CHAIR BAILEY, UH, TO START US OFF AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR OF MORE OF AN UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF TEXAS AND AUSTIN TOURISM. UM, BE HAPPY TO EXTEND AN INVITATION, UH, MOMENTARILY TO VISIT AUSTIN AS WELL AS THE STATE TOURISM OFFICE TO REALLY PRESENT A PICTURE FOR 2025. AND THEN IN FEBRUARY, WE CAN ADDRESS, UH, MAYBE LARGER INFRASTRUCTURE QUESTIONS AS IT RELATES [00:25:01] TO TOURISM, UH, THE CONVENTION CENTER AS WELL AS THE AIRPORT AS YOU RECOMMEND. UH, AND EVEN IF THERE'S TIME, UH, I 35 AND ITS IMPACTS AND HOW THESE INTERRELATE, UH, YOU KNOW, MANY TIMES FOLKS WILL FLY TO AUSTIN AIRPORT, RENT A CAR, GO TO THE CONVENTION CENTER OR OTHER PLACES, AND, YOU KNOW, HOW DO THOSE SYSTEMS WORK TOGETHER? I LIKE THAT. I ACTUALLY, I, I JUST, I AGREE. I LOVE IT BEING POSITIONED AS INFRASTRUCTURE. MM-HMM . I MEAN, THE IDEA THAT THOSE THREE THINGS ARE LIKE CORE PILLARS OF OUR TOURISM ECONOMY AND TO TACKLE THEM IS FROM THAT VANTAGE POINT. IT MAKES A LOT OF SENSE TO ME TOO. THANK YOU FOR COALESCING THAT. GREAT. SOMETHING THAT COMMISSIONER SHAY? YEAH, SO, UH, WE TALKED ABOUT I 35, BUT PROJECT CONNECT WILL START, UH, PRESUMABLY CONSTRUCTION IN EITHER 26 OR 27. UH, AND THAT'S GOING TO BE A DECADE LONG, LONG PROJECT ALMOST. I THINK IT'S SET TO END IN 2033. SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE A HUGE PORTION OF THE CENTRAL AREAS OF OUR CITY THAT ARE TORN UP IN CONSTRUCTION. THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER JEE. THAT'S A, A GOOD ADDENDUM. I THINK AS WE LOOK AT, UH, VARIOUS WAYS FOR PEOPLE GETTING AROUND AS THEY COME TO TOWN. UH, AND AS SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T DRIVE, I THINK THAT'S, UH, SOMETHING THAT IS OF INTEREST TO MANY AUSTINITES AS WELL. UM, PERHAPS WE CAN ALSO ADD THAT TO OUR FEBRUARY, 2025 MEETING TO SORT OF ROUND US OUT IN THE VARIOUS PROJECTS THAT WILL HAVE AN IMPACT. YOU CAN'T ALL DRIVE TO AUSTIN CITY LIMITS OR SOUTH BY RIGHT . UH, SO, UH, IT SEEMS LIKE MAYBE WE HAVE, UH, SOME CONSENSUS ON OUR FIRST TWO MEETINGS OF THE YEAR. IS THAT FAIR TO SAY? GREAT. UH, EVERYTHING HERE IS OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, I THINK DEPENDENT ON, UH, THE AVAILABILITY OF SPEAKERS, THE, UH, THE SORT OF SYNCHRONOUS CONVERSATIONS THAT WE CAN HAVE WITH, UM, YOU KNOW, THE KISMET OF CONVERSATIONS, IF YOU WILL. PERHAPS THERE'S A FILM FESTIVAL IN TOWN, WE CAN TALK ABOUT FILM OR, YOU KNOW, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF FESTIVALS COMING UP THAT WE'D LIKE TO, YOU KNOW, RAISE ATTENTION TOWARDS AND ALSO ASK, UH, ABOUT THEIR ECONOMIC IMPACT AND HOW WE CAN HELP SUPPORT THAT OR, YOU KNOW, REC MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS. PERHAPS EVEN. UH, SO IN THINKING ALOUD HERE, MAYBE IT WOULD BE GOOD TO ACTUALLY PUSH THE FESTIVALS FOOD AND FUN ITEM FROM JUNE TO EARLIER IN THE YEAR. UM, BECAUSE, UH, THERE'S NOT TOO MANY FESTIVALS IN THE SUMMER, UM, WHEN IT'S REALLY, REALLY HOT OUTSIDE. UM, AND MAYBE THEY'RE MORE ON THE SHOULDER SEASONS. SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE THINK ABOUT THAT, OR, I MEAN, WE CAN, THE GOAL HERE, I THINK AS WELL IS TO KEEP THIS PRETTY FLUID AND, AND REVISIT THIS EACH MEETING SO WE CAN ALSO BE FLEXIBLE. UH, IT WOULD JUST BE NICE TO MAYBE HAVE A FOUR MONTH RUNWAY THAT WE'RE, WE'RE SOMEWHAT SET ON. COMMISSIONER PEN. UM, CAN YOU REPEAT FOR, CAN WE GET CLEAR ON JANUARY? SO WE SAID WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT, UM, TOURISM IN TEXAS AND AN UPDATE OF, OR, UM, FORECAST FOR 2025 TOURISM IN TEXAS. AND WHO, WHO WOULD THE SPEAKER BE FOR THAT? WHO WOULD ? THAT WOULD BE THE STATE TOURISM OFFICE, THE STATE TOURISM OFFICE, AS WELL AS VISIT AUSTIN. WE WOULD, UH, ASK THEM AS WELL. OKAY. EXTENDED INVITATION. CORRECT. AND, OKAY. UM, THEN, AND THEN WE'RE ALSO IN AGREEMENT FOR FEBRUARY THAT WE'RE GONNA HAVE, UM, INFRASTRUCTURE MEETING, WHICH ENTAIL ENTAILS INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK. FINALLY IT'S HERE. YES. . YES. AND THAT WILL ENTAIL AN UPDATE ON, UM, THE I 35, CLOSER THE PROJECT CONNECT AND MAYBE A BIA CONVENTION CENTER AND AIRPORT EXPANSION. YEAH. OKAY. I THINK A, A GENERAL, UH, THAT MIGHT BE A LOT FOR ONE MEETING, I THINK, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT GOING ON WITH THESE GUYS. YEAH. YEAH. I THINK THE AIRPORT EXPANSION MIGHT BE A STANDALONE MM-HMM . MEETING IF WE DO, IF WE DOVETAIL IT WITH AIRLINES, BECAUSE WHAT THE AIRPORT'S DOING, WHETHER OR NOT THEY CAN ADDRESS ALL THE AIRLINE MM-HMM . IT'S A, IT'S AN INTERESTING WHETHER THEY SPEAK. YEAH. WELL YOU, YOU'VE GOT THE, UM, UM, TSA ISSUES, UH, LACK OF AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL STAFF. NOW THAT'S A, A NATIONAL, UH, IT'S A NATIONAL IMPACT, [00:30:01] BUT THERE'S A LOT OF, UM, UM, STREAMS THAT THE AIRPORT ENTAILS A LOT OF ISSUES. THAT'S WHY I THINK IT COULD BE STANDALONE. OKAY. INCLUDING AIRLINES. YEAH, THAT MAKES SENSE. SO MAYBE MOVING AIRLINES AND AIRPORT AND AVIATION TO MARCH AND, AND, UH, GIVING US, IT'S ALSO A OPPORTUNE MONTH AS WE SPEAK TO SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST. YES. BECAUSE OF ALL THE TRAFFIC COMING IN. YEAH. AND THEN YOU'VE GOT THE NASCAR EVENT AT THE END OF FEBRUARY, AND, UH, AND THEN AT THE END OF MARCH IT'S MOTO GP, SO THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT EARLIER IN THE YEAR. AND BOTH OF THOSE IMPACT THE AIRLINES IN THE AIRPORT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE EVENTS HAPPENING THE SAME WEEKEND, WHICH SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE AND MORE THESE DAYS. THANK YOU COMMISSIONER IAN. OKAY. VICE CHAIR BAILEY. YEP. UM, SOMEBODY, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG HERE, I'M AUDITING. I'VE BEEN UP HERE FOR A FEW YEARS. HAVE WE EVER TAKEN A, A DEEP DIVE INTO THE SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST EVENT ANYWHERE ON THIS COMMISSION? TALKED LIKE ABOUT THE IMPACT, NOT JUST THE IMPACT, BUT HOW IT DOES WHAT IT DOES. IT BRINGS THE WORLD TO AUSTIN. IT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST FESTIVALS. I MEAN, ACL IS IT'S TYPE OF FESTIVAL, IT'S A DIFFERENT, AND F1 IS A FESTIVAL AND ALL THINGS, BUT SOUTH BY IS A VERY SPECIFIC KIND OF THING. AND I'M JUST WONDERING, WHEN I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT, WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT THE AUSTIN FILM INDUSTRY, AND THEN I WAS THINKING ABOUT, WELL, THERE'S THE FILM FESTIVAL, THERE'S THE AUSTIN FILM SOCIETY, THERE'S THE TEXAS COMMISSION OR FILM COMMISSION, THERE'S THE AUSTIN FILM COMMISSION. THERE'S, AND THEN I REALIZED, BUT INSIDE OF, AND THEN THERE, YOU KNOW, THERE'S THE FILM FESTIVAL SOUTH BY FILM FESTIVAL. AND SO IF WE WERE TRULY LOOKING AT FILM, THEN WE WOULD LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE BECAUSE THEY ALL CONTRIBUTE, YOU KNOW, WHAT THEY DO TO BRING MOVIES TO TEXAS AND HOW THAT IMPACTS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THE FILM FESTIVAL THAT SOUTH BY DOES. YEAH. SO, I MEAN, BUT THEY'RE ALL FILM FORWARD. SO THERE'S THAT DIRECTION. UH, BUT I'M ALSO THINKING ABOUT SOUTH BY IS UNDER A MAJOR, I MEAN, THEY'RE, THEY WERE ACQUIRED, THEY'VE CHANGED. IT'S A DIFFERENT KIND OF BALL GAME. THEY'RE VERY DEPENDENT ON THE CONVENTION CENTER. SO I'VE HAD I ANSWERED THAT QUESTION, THE MONITOR CALLED ME AND ASKED ME A QUESTION, HOW DID I THINK SOUTH BY WAS GONNA OPERATE WITHOUT THE CONVENTION CENTER AS ITS HUB? AND I GAVE AN ANSWER, BUT, YOU KNOW, IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO TALK TO PEOPLE AND THE THINKERS AT SOUTH BY ABOUT HOW THEY'RE LOOKING AT WHAT HAPPENS FOR THE FOUR YEARS THAT THE CONVENTION CENTER DOWN AND HOW DOES SOUTH BY OPERATE AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO BRINGING INTERNATIONAL, GLOBAL GUESTS TO OUR DOORSTEP. I'M CURIOUS. YEAH. I MEAN, AND I THINK THAT'S RELEVANT TO THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WE NEED. AND I'M IN INTERESTED TOO AS WELL, WHAT WILL HAPPEN, WHETHER THERE'S A STATE WHERE THE COUNCIL WILL HAVE TO MAKE SOME DECISIONS EVER. 'CAUSE AS THE COUNCIL ENGAGED, AS IT RELATES TO SOUTH BYS DOING ITS THING IN THIS TOWN, WILL THERE EVER BE ANYTHING THAT THEN THE TOURISM COMMISSION WOULD BE KIND OF ENGAGED BECAUSE THE COUNCIL'S TAKING UP AN ISSUE WITH WHATEVER IT IS. AND I'M NOT SAYING THERE IS AN ISSUE AT ALL. I'M NOT SUGGESTING THERE IS OR THERE SHOULD BE. MM-HMM . I'M ONLY SAYING THAT THE GAME'S CHANGING. AND SOUTH BAY'S A MAJOR ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTOR TO THIS TOWN. AND, AND ONE OF THE TOP PILLARS OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT, CALL IT CONVENTION OR CALL IT LEISURE, IT'S A MAJOR DELIVERY OF HOT TAX BENEFITS TO THE CITY. AND SO I'M JUST SAYING, WE MIGHT WANT TO THINK ABOUT HOW WE COULD ENGAGE SOUTH BY TO GIVE US SOME INSIGHTS, BUT DO IT IN A WAY THAT'S PURPOSEFUL AND VERY SPECIFIC. NOT JUST COME TELL US HOW YOU DO SOUTH BY, BUT MORE TELL US ABOUT THESE THINGS. YEAH. THAT SOUNDS GREAT. COMMISSIONER UH, BAILEY, VICE CHAIR BAILEY, UH, IN LOOKING AT THE ROADMAP, AND IN LIGHT OF YOUR COMMENTS JUST NOW, PERHAPS WHAT WE CAN DO IS COMBINE, UM, APRIL AND MAY AND HAVE MAY CELEBRATING NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK AS A MORE OF A DEEP DIVE ON SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST, UH, WHICH CAN LOOP IN THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF AUSTIN TOURISM. UM, I, I THINK EARLIER IN YOUR COMMENTS, YOU HAD, UH, SPOKEN TO THE AUSTIN FILM INDUSTRY. I, I THINK IT'S DUE TIME THAT THIS COMMISSION SPEAK ABOUT AND, AND LISTEN TO THE PLAYERS WITHIN THIS SPACE, UH, BECAUSE WE, I DON'T BELIEVE WE'VE EVER DONE THAT. UM, AND ALSO I THINK IT'S A, IT'S A GROWING, UM, SECTOR WITHIN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY HERE IN AUSTIN. AND, AND [00:35:01] THE CITY HAS MADE SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENTS IN FILM. UH, I THINK IT'D BE A GOOD THING TO SHOWCASE STUDIO GOING IN BA DROP OR SOMETHING. YEAH. SO THE, YOU KNOW, SEVERAL, SEVERAL PROJECTS THAT, YOU KNOW MM-HMM . PERHAPS WE CAN GET THE CITY'S, UM, I'M NOT ACTUALLY SURE WHAT PART OF THE CITY WOULD ADDRESS THAT. PERHAPS YOU WOULD KNOW, COMMISSIONER REEDY, UH, HOW THE CITY IS INVESTING IN FILM. 'CAUSE THERE USED TO BE A FILM OFFICE, UM, AND MAYBE IT'S STILL THE CASE WITHIN VISIT AUSTIN. IT'S, IT'S STILL THERE. YES. BRIAN GANNON. OKAY. BRIAN GANNON IS THE DIRECTOR OF THAT. GREAT. SO MAYBE THAT'S ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH, UH, VISIT AUSTIN AND, UM, UH, THE FOLKS AT THE, UH, THE STUDIO HERE IN TOWN, UH, AT MUELLER. I WOULD SUPPORT THAT IN BRINGING MR. GANNON IN, UM, BRINGING MAYBE REBECCA CAMPBELL FROM AUSTIN FILM SOCIETY THAT RUNS THE NONPROFIT STUDIO. IT'S A GOOD IDEA. I'M SORRY, I DIDN'T THINK OF IT MYSELF. NO WORRIES. THAT'S WHY WE'RE HAVING THIS MEETING. . UM, SO OKAY, LET'S JUST RECAP THEN WHAT THE GENERAL PROPOSAL IS THEN FOR MARCH, APRIL, MAY. UH, UH, IT SOUNDS LIKE A FOCUS ON THE AIRLINES AND THE AIRPORT. SO THAT INCLUDES PERHAPS NEW ROUTE TO NEW TOURISM MARKETS, UH, WOULD BE THE BROADER TOPIC FOR THE MARCH, 2025 AGENDA. UH, APRIL, 2025. UH, I'M, WAIT, SO THE FILM INDUSTRY'S MOVING FROM 30, FROM MARCH TO APRIL. MARCH TO APRIL. OKAY. IF THAT WORKS FOR FOLKS. YEP. GIVES US THE TIME TO START THESE CONVERSATIONS AND BRINGING, AND YOU KNOW, IT MAY BE THAT, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF OUR FILM, UH, COLLEAGUES CAN'T MAKE IT IN MARCH FOR A BIG EVENT. WE CAN SOUTH BY IS GOING ON HALF THE MONTH, SO RIGHT. OR, UH, APRIL RATHER. UM, SO WE CAN, UH, YOU KNOW, ADJUST AS NECESSARY, BUT JUST TO HAVE SOMETHING TO, TO EDIT THIS TEMPLATE. SO ONCE BECOME AIRPORT, UH, AIRLINES AND AIRPORT OR AVIATION BROADLY. AND, UH, LOOKING AT THE DESIGNS. AND I JUST SAW A 12 MINUTE VIDEO ON THE PORTLAND AIRPORT. I MEAN, WE'VE GOT SOME COMPETITION OUT THERE. I'D LOVE TO SEE WHAT, WHAT AUSTIN'S DOING. YEAH. THE AIRPORT'S GORGEOUS. UH, SO, YOU KNOW, THAT'S NATIVE PORTLANDER HERE, BY THE WAY. UH, , UH, AND ALSO LOOKING AT, UH, SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST AND THE BROADER IMPACT OF, OF AUSTIN TOURISM IN MAY, 2025. UM, WHICH WOULD ALSO INCLUDE, YOU KNOW, BROADER CELEBRATION OF, OF NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST IN MAY. CORRECT. OKAY. TWO MONTHS AFTER. AND YOU SAID APRIL IS WHAT? APRIL WOULD BE THE FILM INDUSTRY. OH, OKAY. THAT'S, AND MAYBE ATHLETICS AND TOURISM CAN BE PUSHED TO JUNE. ANOTHER, UM, ANOTHER POTENTIAL TOPIC THAT, UH, A PLANNING COMMISSIONER CAME TO ME WITH IS, UM, LINKING A ISD WITH THE TOURISM COMMISSION. A ISD HAS MANY FACILITIES ACROSS THE CITY, INCLUDING STADIA AND, UH, IN DIFFERENT SPACES WITHIN THEIR SCHOOLS. AND, UH, NOTING THAT THEY COULD POTENTIALLY BE, UH, A COLLABORATIVE PARTNER. SO PERHAPS THAT CAN BE, UH, A CONVERSATION THAT, UM, YOU KNOW, WE CAN, WE CAN LOOK AT AT A LATER DATE. BUT, UM, LOOKING AT OUR SCHOOLS AS FACILITIES TO HELP FOSTER TOURISM OR FUTURE WORKERS IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY, FILM PROGRAMS, ART PROGRAMS, ET CETERA. IT'S A STRETCH. WE'LL SEE. , UH, I THINK THE POINT BEING IS THAT THERE ARE MANY CONNECTIONS THAT CAN BE MADE. I'M NOT SURE THEY'RE BEING MADE RIGHT NOW. UM, BUT IT WOULD BE COOL IF WE ACTUALLY HAD PROGRAMS WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS THAT COULD HELP, UH, PROMOTE, UH, TOURISM AS A CAREER FIELD, PARTICULARLY IN THE HIGH SCHOOL, UM, AREAS. THEY DO IT AT A CC, DON'T THEY? A CC PROGRAM? I IS A HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM. I'M NOT SURE WHICH HIGH SCHOOL HAVE OH, GREAT. VERY SUCCESSFUL. OH, THAT'S AWESOME. SEE, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW. THAT'S, THAT'S REALLY COOL. IT'D BE REALLY NICE TO HEAR ABOUT THAT. UM, IT'S, UH, IT'S COORDINATED THROUGH THIS. AWESOME. OH, NICE. I THINK THAT FALLS UNDER YOUR, UM, WORK, THE WORK, UM, CULTIVATION OF THE WORKFORCE. OF THE HOSPITALITY WORKFORCE. YEAH. I MEAN, I THINK THAT EDUCATION, MY, WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS I THINK THE EDUCATIONAL PIECE BELONGS IN UNDER A BROADER TENT OF THAT TOPIC. AND THEN WE FIGURE OUT WHAT ARE ALL THE DIFFERENT INTERSECTIONS ARE WITHIN THAT SPACE. BUT I DO LIKE THE IDEA OF, OF TALKING ABOUT PREPPING NEXT GENERATION HOSPITALITY [00:40:01] AND HOW THAT, HOW THAT'S PLAYING OUT IN AUSTIN, WHAT FACILITIES AND EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS ARE. AND I, I AGREE WITH WHAT COMMISSIONER SHANNON SAID THAT ABOUT IT'S VISIT AUSTIN GIVES AWAY GRANT VISIT AUSTIN FOUNDATION GIVES AWAY GRANTS TO HOSPITALITY STUDENTS EVERY YEAR. THEY HAVE A PROGRAM WHERE THEY RAISE MONEY AND THEN THEY DEPLOY AND GIVE GRANTS TO STUDENTS. THAT'S AN ANNUAL THING. SO THAT, THAT'S A GOOD PROGRAM. AND I THINK IF THERE'S AN EDUCATION PROGRAM TRAINING AND, AND PREPARING AND THE A CC HAS A, THERE'S A LOT TO ROLL UP, THEN NOW WE'VE GOT THE START OF A CONVERSATION ABOUT, YEAH. GREAT. SO I THINK THAT THAT PROVIDES A GOOD RUNWAY OF TOPICS, YOU KNOW, THROUGH MAY OF NEXT YEAR TO, TO KEEP US FOCUSED AND ALIGNED WITH GOALS FOR THE COMMISSION. UH, COMMISSIONER BEZA, DO YOU HAVE A COMMENT? YEAH. UM, WE DIDN'T GET TO, AT LEAST I DIDN'T HEAR, I DON'T KNOW IF COMMISSIONER REEDY HEARD, UH, WHAT COMMISSIONER SHANNON HAD SAID. UM, BUT, UM, I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE LIKE ONE MEETING WHERE IT IS ABOUT LIKE THE HOSPO HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, NOT JUST LIKE GETTING, UM, NEW FOLKS READY TO JUMP INTO THE INDUSTRY, BUT ALSO MAKING, TALKING ABOUT, LIKE, MAKING THIS INDUSTRY WORTH GETTING INTO IS ANOTHER PIECE. MM-HMM . UM, THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF MOVEMENT IN THE PAST YEAR WHEN IT COMES TO HOTEL WORKERS IN THIS CITY. WE MADE HISTORY THIS PAST YEAR OF HAVING LIKE TWO UNION HOTELS IN, UM, OUR CITY. UM, LIKE WE COMPETING WITH HOUSTON WHEN IT COMES TO THAT. AND LIKE THE AIRPORT WORKERS JUST WON, UH, RAISE A MINIMUM RAISE OF LIKE $25 AN HOUR, UM, WHICH IS GREAT. SO IT'D BE GOOD TO HEAR FROM THESE FOLKS THAT ARE, ARE THE FACE OF THE INDUSTRY RIGHT HERE IN AUSTIN, UM, WHAT CAN BE DONE IN THE INDUSTRY TO MAKE IT MORE, MAKE IT LIKE APPEALING TO PEOPLE COMING OUTTA HIGH SCHOOL TO WANT TO JOIN IT AND WHAT'S GOING, LIKE, JUST HEARING FROM THE FOLKS ON THE GROUND. TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT. THANKS FOR ADDING THAT. REALLY DO, THAT'S, THAT'S SOME VITAL INFORMATION BREAKING TODAY HERE. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT YOU JUST SAID ABOUT THE AIRPORT WORKERS AND ABOUT THE UNION HOTELS. THAT'S INTERESTING. THANK YOU. COMMISSIONER BISON. I'VE NOTED THAT HERE. UH, AND PERHAPS WE CAN INCORPORATE THAT INTO, YOU KNOW, IF IT'S APPROPRIATE, UM, IN TERMS OF TIME AND SPACING, UM, A LITTLE BIT IN OUR AVIATION TOPIC FOR MARCH. ANY OTHER ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, IDEAS, ADDITIONS? COMMISSIONER PEN? JUST HAVE A, A RECOMMENDATION. I WOULD, I THINK WE SHOULD BE MINDFUL ABOUT, UH, STACKING TOO MANY SPEAKERS, UH, INTO ONE MEETING. UM, IT GETS TO BE TOO MUCH INFORMATION AND I, I THINK IT DILUTES FROM THE OTHER SPEAKER WHEN THERE'S THREE OF THEM HERE AND THEY'RE COMPETING FOR OUR ATTENTION AND WE'RE GETTING DATA FROM THREE DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS. UM, SO I THINK WE SHOULD JUST BE MINDFUL ABOUT NOT STACKING TOO MANY SPEAKERS IN ANY ONE MEETING. THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER PIAN. UM, I THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT AS WELL. AND, YOU KNOW, IN TERMS OF AVAILABILITY OF SPEAKERS, IT'S, IT'S BEEN, UM, SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT IN THE PAST TO GET THEM TO COME AND CERTAIN DATES. SO, UM, I'D ALSO JUST LIKE TO, TO MAKE SURE THAT I, I DO MY BEST TO PREPARE SPEAKERS TO COME, UH, TO, UH, MEETINGS AND, AND PROVIDE THEIR PRESENTATION IN ADVANCE. SO IT GIVES US ADDITIONAL TIME AS COMMISSIONERS TO REVIEW THE PRESENTATIONS AND, YOU KNOW, BE MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE, THE NUMBERS COMING TO US. UM, SO I THINK THAT'S CRITICAL AS WELL, IS JUST BE SURE THAT WE'RE ALL, UM, ON THE SAME PAGE BE BEFORE WE SEE SOMEONE'S PRESENTATION. I, I TRY AND GET THAT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU AND, UM, I KNOW THAT YOU EQUALLY ALL REVIEW AS, AS BEST YOU CAN THE, THE INFORMATION THAT WE SEND, SO I DO APPRECIATE THAT. UM, ANY ADDITIONAL TOPICS YOU'D LIKE TO ADD AND MAY THE RECORD REFLECT THAT COMMISSIONER MATHIS HAS JOINED US AT THE DAAS? HELLO. I JUST WANNA ADD THAT I, TO AMPLIFY OFF OF COMMISSIONER IAN'S POINT, IF WE, IF WE CAN'T [00:45:01] GET THE SPEAKERS THAT WE WANT TO GIVE BECAUSE OF TIMING, I, I WANT ENCOURAGE THAT WE STILL HAVE FLEXIBILITY TO FLIP THE TOPICS THAT WE JUST OUTLINED IN PRIORITY AND START WITH, START WITH JANUARY AND SEE HOW WE'RE TRACKING TO GET THE HEAVY LEVEL OF PRESENTERS THAT WE WOULD LIKE. AND IF WE ARE, WE HAVE AT LEAST, YOU KNOW, WE'RE TRENDING AT 75% OF GETTING THE PEOPLE THAT WE'VE OUTREACHED TO, THEN WE'RE GOOD TO GO. BUT IF WE CAN'T GET 'EM, THEN WE SHOULD PUNT AND GO BACK AND SAY, SHOULD WE MOVE UP, MOVE UP FEBRUARY, YOU KNOW, CHANGE THE ORDER BECAUSE IT JUST, I JUST DON'T THINK IT'S, IT'S A GREAT USE OF OUR TIME. IT, WE'RE NOT REALLY GETTING THE, THE, THE DATA AND INFORMATION WE REALLY WANT, WE NEED, YOU KNOW, SO THANK YOU VICE CHAIR BAILEY. ALRIGHT. ALRIGHT. HEARING NO ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, I MOVE [5. Discussion and possible action regarding future scheduling of Tourism Commission Meetings in 2025 ] US TO OUR FIFTH ITEM ON THE AGENDA DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING FUTURE SCHEDULING OF TOURISM COMMISSIONS IN 2025 FOR, UH, THE BENEFIT OF COMMISSIONERS. LAST MONTH WE HAD DISCUSSED MEETING AT THE SAME TIME AND SAME PLACE WEDNESDAYS SECOND WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH HERE IN CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS FROM TWO 30 TO FOUR 30. THAT WAS OUR INTENTION. IN TERMS OF RESCHEDULING OUR MEETINGS FOR 2025, WE SUBMITTED A REQUEST THROUGH OUR, UH, STAFF LIAISON, MS. FELICIA OJEDA, BURLESON, AND I WANTED TO SEE IF SHE HAD ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS OR UPDATES WITH REGARD TO THE SCHEDULING. IT APPEARS THAT SHE DOES NOT. UH, BUT FINGERS CROSSED WE DO HAVE THIS, UH, ROOM AND TIME FOR OUR JANUARY MEETING AT THE, UM, AT LEAST RATHER, UH, ON JANUARY 8TH, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8TH. WONDERFUL. GOOD TO HEAR. UM, SEEING THAT THERE ARE NO MORE UPDATES WITH THIS TOPIC AND THAT WE ARE ON HOLD UNTIL NEXT MONTH WHEN WE HAVE AN UPDATE, UH, IF, IF WE DO GET AN UPDATE HERE IN DECEMBER, WE'LL BE SURE TO LET COMMISSIONERS KNOW TO MARK THOSE DATES FOR YOUR CALENDARS. GREAT. MOVING ON TO [6. Update from the Short-Term Rental Working Group on any new reports regarding the STR’s new focus and efforts for recommendations.] OUR LAST AGENDA ITEM OF THE DAY. UH, AGENDA ITEM NUMBER SIX, UPDATE FROM THE SHORT-TERM RENTAL WORKING GROUP ON, UH, ANY NEW REPORTS REGARDING THE SHORT-TERM RENTALS, NEW FOCUS AND EFFORTS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF OUR RECOMMENDATIONS TO CITY COUNCIL. I BELIEVE COMMISSIONER PIAN, YOU HAD, UH, AN UPDATE THAT YOU COULD PROVIDE WITH REGARD TO MEETING WITH THE MAYOR'S OFFICE YESTERDAY? YES, UH, YES. UH, WE HAD A MEETING THIS MORNING WITH THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE. UM, IT WENT VERY WELL. UM, WE GAVE HIM OUR, WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT WE'D BEEN WORKING ON. WE PRESENTED OUR, UM, RESOLUTION THAT WE AS A, A TOURISM COMMISSION BOARD, UH, PASSED. AND, UM, HE, HE WAS VERY OPEN TO IT. HE, HE DIDN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE TOURISM COMMISSION, SO WE SORT OF EXPLAINED THAT, UM, WHEN WE HAVE OUR MEETINGS AND THERE WERE, UH, CITY, UH, COUNCIL MEMBER APPOINTED EACH ONE OF US AND, UH, KIND OF GAVE THEM A, A LITTLE BIT OF AN EDUCATION OF WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON, UM, WITH OUR WORKING GROUP AND THAT WE HAD BEEN, UH, THAT WE MET WITH SEVERAL COUNCIL MEMBER OFFICES AND THE MAYOR'S OFFICE, AND EVERYONE SAID THAT KIND OF TIMING WASN'T RIGHT, BUT THEY ALL AGREE THAT SOME CHANGE NEEDS TO BE MADE, UH, WITH THE WAY THE STR ARE OPERATED. SO HE WAS OPEN TO EVERYTHING. UM, I THINK THE TAKEAWAY WAS THAT HE WOULD, UM, THAT HE'D LIKE US TO STAY CONNECTED WITH THE DIFFERENT, UM, STAFF AND GROUPS THAT WILL BE HANDLING FUTURE CHANGES WITH THE STR. AND WE KIND OF WERE JUST FOCUSED ON, HEY, LET'S START, UH, WITH THE LOW HANGING FRUIT AND THEN WORK OUR WAY UP. BECAUSE IF WE START GETTING INTO CODE CHANGES AND ORDINANCES, THAT BECOMES A BIGGER, UH, A BIGGER TOPIC AND IT OPENS IT UP TO MUCH MORE DISCUSSION. BUT IF WE JUST FOCUS ON THE OPERATIONAL DEFICIENCIES AND START IMPROVING THE OPERATIONAL DEFICIENCIES WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY OF THE, YOU KNOW, REGULATIONS OR ORDINANCES AND JUST IMPROVING OPERATIONS, THAT'LL KIND OF ORGANICALLY MAKE SOME OF THE CHANGES THAT WE NEED AS FAR AS, UH, GETTING [00:50:01] LICENSES FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE, YOU KNOW, OPERATING WITHOUT A LICENSE CURRENTLY, JUST MAKING THE PROCESS A BIT EASIER. SO ALL IN ALL, IT WAS A GREAT MEETING. I THINK IT'S, UH, A FIRST MEETING WITH HIM OF PROBABLY MANY WITH HIS STAFF. WE'RE HOPING TO MAKE CHANGES IN 2025. THANK YOU. COMMISSIONER PENOC, CAN YOU, UH, REPEAT JUST SO WE ALL KNOW WHO ATTENDED THAT MEETING FROM THE COMMISSION? YES. UM, FROM OUR, UM, WORKING GROUP, IT WAS MYSELF, STEPHANIE MATHIS, UH, GREG SHANNON, UH, CHRISTIAN SHAPEY. THANK YOU. IT'S THE SPELLING THAT GETS ME EACH TIME. AND, UM, BISHOP, GREAT COMMISSIONER CHAPEL AND THE, AND THE, UM, CITY MANAGER HIMSELF. WONDERFUL. THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE. UM, WELL THAT'S REALLY GREAT NEWS. YEAH, I'M HAPPY THAT WE'RE, WE'RE MOVING THINGS FORWARD WITH I, THE CONVERSATION WITH THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE, VICE CHAIR BAILEY QUESTION. UM, YOU MENTIONED THAT THE CITY MANAGER SUGGESTED YOU STAY CLOSE TO THE DIVISIONS OR THE PARTS OF THE CITY THAT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR, YOU KNOW, IMPLEMENTING OR TAKING ACTION IF WE BEGAN TO MOVE. WHAT ARE THOSE, I'M CURIOUS, WHAT IS IT, WHAT DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY HAVE THE HIGHEST VESTED INTEREST IN SEEING CHANGE HAPPEN IN THIS AREA? UM, WELL, WE ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO HELP AND STAY IN TOUCH WITH ANY OF, UH, STAFF OR THE DEPARTMENTS THAT, UM, WOULD, WOULD BE ASSIGNED WITH LOOKING AT THE STR AND MAKING SOME IMPROVEMENTS. AND HE WAS OPEN TO THAT. AND, UM, I BELIEVE THAT, AND, UM, COMMISSIONER SHAY CAN CORRECT ME. I THINK IT WAS THE PLAN WE WERE WANTING TO MEET WITH THE PLANNING AND CODE OR WAS IT YOU? CORRECT. HE, HE HAS A SORT OF STRIKE TEAM THAT'S WORKING ON THIS ISSUE AND IT'S COMPOSED OF PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS. UH, PLANNING BEING ONE, CODE BEING ONE, UH, THERE'S A THIRD AS WELL. UM, AND SO MEETING WITH THAT BODY IS, UH, SOMETHING THAT, UH, WE'RE, WE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN AND THAT, UH, HE SAID THAT, UH, YEAH, HE WOULD LIKE US TO STAY IN THOSE CONVERSATIONS IN THE FUTURE. THANK YOU. COMMISSIONER SHAY, COMMISSIONER MATHIS ALREADY COMPLIANCE, PLANNING CODE AND COMPLIANCE, BUT HE DID SAY THAT WE SHOULD BE CONNECTING WITH THE STRIKE TEAM 'CAUSE PEOPLE FROM EACH OF THOSE ARE ON THE STRIKE. TEAM COMMISSIONER SHAY, THE, THE THIRD WAS LEGAL. OKAY. CAN WE REPEAT THAT LAST SENTENCE FOR, FOR OUR VIEWERS? UM, I THINK IT WAS MISSED. THE, THE THIRD, UH, DEPARTMENT THAT'S PART OF THAT STRIKE TEAM IS LEGAL AND ALL OF THE, CAN YOU LIST ALL OF THEM PLEASE? YES. IT'S, UH, CODE COMPLIANCE PLANNING, LEGAL, AND THE CITY MANAGER SUGGESTED THAT WE USE THE STRIKE TEAM FOR WHAT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE, FOR THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. THIS THE STRIKE TEAM. GREAT, THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD FOR THE CONVERSATION AROUND SHORT-TERM RENTALS? NO. CHAIR BAILEY, THE QUESTION WAS DID ANYBODY THROW A NUMBER OUT ANYWHERE THAT SAYS THIS IS THE MONEY BEING LEFT ON THE TABLE? YES. OKAY. JUST YES, SIR. AND WHAT WAS THAT NUMBER? 18 18 MILLION? IS THAT WHAT WE, I BELIEVE THAT BISHOP GAVE OUR 20 COMMISSIONER MATHIS 20 MILLION. OKAY. UH, SO, UH, IT SOUNDS LIKE, UH, FOR THE GOOD OF OUR VIEWERS THAT THERE'S POTENTIALLY 18 TO $20 MILLION BEING LEFT ON THE TABLE EACH YEAR IN REVENUES FOR CITY COFFERS BY NOT ENFORCING THE SHORT TERM, UH, RENTALS ORDINANCE, BASICALLY CURRENTLY. IS THAT CORRECT? YEAH. THAT, THAT'S WHAT WAS RELAYED TO CITY MANAGEMENT. THAT'S THE ESTIMATE. YEAH, THAT'S THE ESTIMATE. MM-HMM . OKAY. THANK YOU. WELL, I'M, I'M PLEASED THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO TRACK THIS EFFORT AND TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THIS, UH, IMPORTANT REVENUE SOURCE FOR THE CITY AND HOW IT INTERCONNECTS WITH, UH, COLLECTION OF THE HOT TAX, WHICH IS VERY MUCH A, AN INITIATIVE OF THIS COMMISSION. UH, AND, UH, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO, UH, UPDATE US WITH ANY ADDITIONAL MEETINGS AND, UM, INITIATIVES AS THEY MAY COME. I KNOW THAT, UH, COMMISSIONER CHAPEL'S NOT HERE TODAY, BUT, UM, I KNOW THAT HE'S ALSO A PART OF THAT EFFORT, SO WE THANK HIM AND, UH, AS WELL AS EVERY OTHER, EVERY ONE ELSE WHO'S ON THAT COMMISSION OR RATHER WORK CREW. THANK YOU. WITH THAT, UM, [FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS] [00:55:02] I WANTED JUST TO, TO LEAVE AN OPEN FLOOR FOR ANY FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS, BUT I, I THINK WE KIND OF DID THAT TODAY WITH OUR REVIEW OF THE ROADMAP, BUT ARE THERE ANY ANNOUNCEMENTS OR ADDITIONAL TOPICS THAT COMMISSIONERS WOULD LIKE TO BRING UP? COMMISSIONER MATHIS? CAN YOU JUST RECAP WHAT WAS DISCUSSED? WHAT THE, UH, NEW COMMISSION APPOINTEES AND STRATEGIES FOR APPROVAL? UH, GENERALLY WE, WE SPOKE TO DIFFERENT, UH, UH, DIFFERENT TYPES OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS AND INDUSTRIES FOR REPRESENTATION. SO SPORTS, MUSEUMS, PARKS AND OPEN SPACE HOTEL FOLKS, UH, SPECIAL EVENTS, CULINARY LABOR. WE HAVE, UM, A GOOD, UM, REPRESENTATION OF FOLKS, BUT SOME FOLKS WILL BE STEPPING OFF OF THE COMMISSION NEXT YEAR DUE TO TERM LIMITS. SO THAT WAS THE CONVERSATION. IS THAT, IS THAT COMM UH, VICE CHAIR BAILEY? SO SPECIFICALLY WE, WE TALKED ABOUT, UH, UH, COMMISSIONER CHAPEL, BISON, PIAN, AND REY ALL HAVE, COULD BE ROLLING OFF BECAUSE THEIR COMMISSION, THEIR APPOINTEES ARE UN NOT SECURED. I MEAN, THEY'RE EITHER CHANGING OR CHANGING OF THE GUARD, AND THEN THERE'S A PROCESS THEY COULD BE REAPPOINTED WITH THE NEW. SO WE HAVE FOUR COMMISSION POSITIONS, INCLUDING, WE HAVE TWO DIS VACANT DISTRICTS, FOUR AND DISTRICT 10. SO, UM, THAT'S SIX, SIX POSITIONS RIGHT NOW THAT ARE MINOR FLUX HEADING INTO 25. I THINK THAT'S THE QUESTION YOU WERE ASKING RIGHT, RIGHT. KIND OF. YEAH. OKAY. THANK YOU. VICE CHAIR BAILEY. I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TOO TO POINT OUT THAT, UH, WE'VE LONG SINCE LEFT OUR ISSUES OF QUORUM, WHICH I'M VERY HAPPY ABOUT. UM, BUT I AM ALSO ALWAYS ON TOP OF IT TEXTING YOU BEFORE THE DAY OF, UM, OF MEETINGS BECAUSE I THINK IT'S CRITICAL THAT WE, UM, YOU KNOW, ENSURE THAT WE HAVE GOOD PARTICIPATION AND THAT'S, THAT'S MADE EASIER BY HAVING, UM, NO VACANCIES ON THE TOURISM COMMISSION. SO. WONDERFUL. WELL, WITH THAT, IF THERE ARE NO OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, I MOVE THAT WE ADJOURN, UH, THE TOURISM MEETING HERE ON DECEMBER 11TH. OKAY. IS THERE A SECOND? I SECOND, BUT I ADD HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY. . THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER IAN. THIS MEETING IS ADJOURNED. HOW MANY PEOPLE. * This transcript was created by voice-to-text technology.
