AND IT'S, IT IS ALSO EXPECTED TO BE A COMMUNICATION DOCUMENT.
SO IT'S NOT JUST AN INTERNAL DOCUMENT THAT GUIDES EVERYONE WITHIN THE AGENCY, BUT IT IS ALSO INTENDED TO COMMUNICATE THE VISION AND GOALS FOR THE FUTURE, UH, TO THE PUBLIC.
SO, AS ASHLEY MENTIONED, UH, WE STARTED THIS PROCESS IN SEPTEMBER.
UH, ONE OF THE THINGS WE DID IS WE DID A LOT OF INTERVIEWS WITH STAKEHOLDERS, WITH SOME OF YOU, UH, WITH FOLKS, UH, UH, UM, THAT ARE, UH, IN THE REGION AND EVEN SOME NATIONAL PEOPLE TO GET A SENSE OF WHAT ARE THE TRENDS, WHAT'S HAPPENING, WHAT DO WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF AS WE THINK ABOUT THE NEXT FIVE YEARS? WE CONDUCTED A WORKSHOP IN DECEMBER WHERE WE PRESENTED THOSE RESULTS TO THE SENIOR EXECUTIVE TEAM AND, AND THE PLT.
AND BOTH OF, UH, BOTH OF THOSE GROUPS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO OFFER THEIR IDEAS ABOUT HOW WE MIGHT DEAL WITH SOME OF THESE TRENDS.
WE ALSO MET WITH DEPARTMENTAL MANAGERS DURING THAT TIME, AND THAT WAS A GREAT WAY TO GET INTERNAL FEEDBACK ABOUT WHAT WE WERE HEARING SO WE COULD BETTER DEVELOP STRATEGIES THAT COULD GO IN THE PLANT.
WE CAME TO YOU IN JANUARY WITH AN UPDATE, AND THEN IN FEBRUARY WE WERE READY TO TALK TO THE SCT AND PLT AGAIN ABOUT WHAT SOME OF THE ACTION ITEMS WERE IN THE PLAN THAT WE WERE SUGGESTING.
WE GOT THEIR FEEDBACK ON THAT.

WHAT ARE WE ACTUALLY TRYING TO DO? THE BIG PICTURE, WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC THINGS THAT WE CARE ABOUT OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS WHERE WE'RE GONNA BE TRACKING HOW WELL WE'RE DOING ABOUT THESE CRITICAL THINGS, WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT MATTER THE MOST AND ARE OUR PRIORITY? YOU HAVE TO GET SECURITY AND RELIABILITY RIGHT IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE ANYTHING ELSE.
SO THOSE ARE CRITICAL RESULTS.
SECOND, INCREASED RIDERSHIP PER CAPITA IN THE REGION.
THIS MIGHT SEEM LIKE SOMETHING YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED, RIGHT? PUBLIC TRANSIT AGENCY IS OFFERING TRANSIT SERVICES.
WE SHOULD BE TRYING TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE RIDING THOSE SERVICES, BUT WE WANTED TO BE VERY EXPLICIT ABOUT STATING THAT THIS IS WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ACHIEVE AND HOLD OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE BECAUSE THAT IS A VERY AMBITIOUS THING TO TRY TO DO IN, IN A PLACE LIKE AUSTIN, UH, AND THIS REGION.
BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE TO BE EXPLICIT ABOUT AND BE AMBITIOUS ABOUT NEXT FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, ENSURING THAT IT GUIDES ALL THAT WE DO.
WE ARE A PUBLIC AGENCY IN ORDER TO BE EFFECTIVE, HAVE TO HAVE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY AT TOP OF MIND AT ALL TIMES BECAUSE IT IS THE PUBLIC'S MONEY AND BECAUSE WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SPENDING IT WISELY.
SO THAT RUNS THROUGH EVERYTHING WE DO.
AND THEN FINALLY, WORK TO MAKE CAP METRO RECOGNIZE AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT OF TRANSPORTATION IN THE REGION.
OUR, UH, WHAT WE FOUND WHEN WE WERE LOOKING AT, UH, AT LISTENING TO STAKEHOLDERS AND LOOKING AT SURVEY RESULTS IS THAT WHILE PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF CAP METRO, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY THINK ABOUT CAP METRO AS CRITICAL TO THE FUTURE AND THE ECONOMICS AND THE TRANSPORTATION OF THIS AREA.

SO THE WORKSHOP THAT WE HELD, UH, IN, UH, IN MID-FEBRUARY, AS I MENTIONED, WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS THESE CRITICAL RESULTS AS WELL AS THE ACTION ITEMS THAT ARE IN THE PLAN, BUT ALSO EXCITING OWNERSHIP FOR EACH ACTION WAS A CRITICAL THING THAT WE DID AT THIS WORKSHOP BECAUSE YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE ACTION ITEMS IN THE WORLD, BUT IF SOMEONE ISN'T ASSIGNED A LEAD THAT ISN'T ASSIGNED FOR THEM, IT'S HARD TO HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE.
AND WE CONFIRMED THE MILESTONES AND THE TIMELINES FOR EACH ACTION.

OH, WE'RE, WE'RE INITIATING OUR FAIR STUDY AND HERE'S WHERE WE ARE IN THE PROCESS THAT THAT'S PRETTY CUT AND DRY, BUT, YOU KNOW, FOUR POINT I LOOK AT 4.5, IDENTIFY AND PURSUE ADDITIONAL FUNDING SOURCES FOR INCREASED TRANSIT SERVICES, INCLUDING POTENTIAL FUNDING PARTNERSHIPS.
THAT ONE'S NOT SO EASY AND CUT AND DRY.
AND THAT'S GONNA BE THAT THERE'S, THERE'S GONNA BE A LOT MORE NUANCE TO THAT AND A LOT MORE, UM, I, I WOULD THINK THAT THAT IN AND OF ITSELF COULD, COULD, UH, SPUR OFF MULTIPLE PLANS OR ACTION ITEMS JUST FROM IT WHERE YOU'RE GONNA GO 4.5 0.1, 2, 3, 4 D DIFFERENT THINGS JUST EVEN BEYOND THAT.
I THINK THAT THE INTENTION IS THAT THIS IS NOT A DOCUMENT THAT'S JUST CARVED IN STONE AND THEN LEFT ALONE FOR FIVE YEARS.
THAT THERE WILL BE ADJUSTMENTS AS WE GO ALONG, ESPECIALLY AFTER FIVE YEARS, BUT EVEN BEFORE THEN.
AND YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT THERE, THE FOLKS WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF LEADING EACH ACTION ITEM MAY COME UP WITH SUBTASKS THAT THEY SAY, OKAY, WE'RE GONNA DO THIS, THIS, AND THIS.
AND THEN THOSE WE'RE GONNA MONITOR HOW THEIR PROGRESS IS DOING ON THOSE SUBTASKS.
SO YEAH, SOME OF THEM ARE MORE AMBIGUOUS THAN OTHERS.
UM, BUT, UH, BUT CERTAINLY, UH, THE CRITICAL RESULTS THEMSELVES HAVE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE METRICS THAT WE CAN EVALUATE THE ENTIRE TIME.
AND THOSE ARE A LITTLE BIT MORE GRANULAR.
AND, AND HOW DO YOU ALL SEE, AND THIS IS BOTH TO YOU AND THEN TO, TO LEADERSHIP, UM, THE TRANSIT PLAN 2035 FITTING INTO THE STRATEGIC PLAN, BECAUSE I REALIZED WE DO THE STRATEGIC PLAN EVERY FIVE YEARS AND THAT'S, THAT, THAT, THAT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS FOR THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION, THIS IS HOW WE DO THE BUSINESS THAT WE DO.
BUT THE TRANSIT PLAN IS KIND OF REALLY WHERE WE GO, WHERE WE GO, UH, AS IT AS IT WERE.
SO HOW DO YOU FORESEE OR LOOK AT HOW THESE TWO THINGS KIND OF MELD WITH EACH OTHER SINCE THE TIMING IS HITTING RIGHT NOW? THAT WE'RE GONNA BE DOING BOTH.
SO I MEAN, SO FIRST OF ALL, ONE OF THE ACTION ITEMS IN THIS PLAN IS TO COMPLETE THE 2035 PLAN.
SO THE, THE, THEY ARE, THEY ARE INTERCONNECTED.
