This house represents a relatively intact example of a working-class cottage in a historically African-American neighborhood; these cottages are becoming more scarce in the City and staff encourages measures to preserve this house, if not on site, then within an appropriate context. The house also has some significance as an early, though rented, home of an African-American entrepreneur.
