[Community Council Update]

COMMUNITY COUNCIL UPDATE? WELL, I AM THRILLED TO SEE ALL OF YOU TODAY.

VERY EXCITING.

UH, LET ME SEE.

WE DO HAVE SOME COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEMBERS THAT WILL BE JOINING US.

WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO CONNECTING WITH YOU AND GETTING TO ALL THE COUNCIL, TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE, TO LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR ORGANIZATIONS AND TO PARTICIPATE WITH YOU.

SO THEY'RE GOING TO BE LISTENING TO OUR DIALOGUE ABOUT THE WORK PLAN FOR 2021.

AND SO THAT, THAT INFORMS OUR WORK PLAN FOR THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL.

UM, THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL IS SEEKING NOMINATIONS TO JOIN US FOR A THREE YEAR TERM, STARTING IN 2021.

WE HAVE 16, UH, POSITIONS, OIL, 17 POSITIONS OPEN.

WE JUST HAD A, UM, A PERSON WHO TOOK A NEW JOB AND IS NOT ABLE TO HELP US ANYMORE.

UH, THE LINK HAS BEEN SHARED WITH YOU FOR NOMINATIONS, AND WE HOPE THAT YOU'LL CONSIDER NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED.

AND PLEASE THINK DIVERSITY BECAUSE WE REALLY DON'T HAVE AS HARD A TIME FINDING WHITE INDIVIDUALS TO HELP US, BUT IT'S A LOT HARDER TO FIND, UH, THE DIVERSITY THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR.

SO THINK ABOUT THAT.

ALSO, WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING A DELIBERATIVE DIALOGUE, WHICH IS MATERIAL FROM THE NATIONAL ISSUES FORUM INSTITUTE.

WE'VE USED THEIR MATERIALS IN THE PAST FOR OTHER DELIBERATIVE DIALOGUES, AND YOU SHOULD HAVE THE LINK TO JOIN THE SESSION, WHICH WILL BE ON MONDAY, OCTOBER THE 19TH FROM SIX TO 8:00 PM.

WE'RE ALSO DOING TRAINING FOR FACILITATORS ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK AT NOON AND AT 6:00 PM.

AND THE ISSUE THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE COVERING IS BACK TO WORK AS WE EXPECT TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE CONCERNS ASAP THE HEALTH OF THE U S ECONOMY AND THE ABILITY TO FIND A GOOD JOB TO SUPPORT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY MATTERS JANUARY AMERICAN.

THIS ISSUE GUIDE IS DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE DELIBERATE TOGETHER ABOUT HOW TO BEST PICK UP THE PIECES AFTER COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

THE THREE OPTIONS PRESENTED HERE REFLECT DIFFERENT WAYS OF UNDERSTANDING WHAT IS AT STAKE AND SHED LIGHT ON THE CRITICAL TENSIONS IN WHAT AMERICANS HOLD MOST VALUABLE.

THE OPTIONS PRESENTED.

THERE'S AN ADVISORY DOCUMENT, WHICH IS EIGHT PAGES LONG, REALLY PRETTY DANCED WITH A LOT OF INFORMATION AND CHARTS.

AND THE FULL READ IS A 30 PAGE DOCUMENT.

AND THESE ARE TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE DISCUSSION OF THE THREE OPTIONS PROVIDED AND THE OPTIONS.

AND THERE WILL BE BREAKOUT SESSIONS IN WHICH WE WILL BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THEM IN SMALL GROUPS, AND THEN COME BACK TO THE LARGE GROUP.

THE FIRST OPTION IS JUMPSTART.

THE ECONOMY.

THE SECOND OPTION IS MOVED TO SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY.

AND THE THIRD ONE IS PUT DOMESTIC AND LOCAL NEEDS.

FIRST.

WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL REGISTER AND SHARE THE LINK WITH OTHERS IN YOUR NETWORKS TO JOIN US, TO HAVE A VERY VIBRANT DISCUSSION ON THESE ISSUES.

AND THAT'S IT FOR THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL.

GO AHEAD.

SORRY TO INTERRUPT.

GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYBODY.

I'M LAURA.

I JUST WANTED TO ASK YOU, I HAVE SEVERAL FOLKS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL.

SO, UM, ANY SPECIFICITY WILL EVERYTHING BE IN THE LINK AS TO WHAT THEIR ACCESS IS? AND

[00:05:01]

WE ACTUALLY CREATED A SPECIAL WEBPAGE THAT GIVES YOU BASIC INFORMATION, HELPS YOU FIND MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL AND WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR.

IT'S REALLY VERY BROAD IT'S PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN ISSUES IN THE COMMUNITY WHO HAVE BEEN PROVIDING LEADERSHIP AND WHO WANT TO SHARE AND DISCUSS AND PROVIDE GUIDANCE.

CAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR.

AND WE'RE BASICALLY GOING TO REALLY DOVETAIL IN TO WHAT RETREAT ISSUES WE COME UP WITH, BOTH THIS MEETING AND OUR NEXT MEETING.

AND THEN WE'LL TAKE THOSE BACK TO THE COUNCIL AND SAY, HERE'S WHAT THE CAN BOARD IS FOCUSING ON, WHICH OF THESE WOULD WE LIKE TO PUT OUR ENERGY TOWARDS.

GREAT, THANKS NORA.

THANKS FOR, THANK YOU.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NOMINATIONS.

THANKS.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ON THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL? ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU, NORA ROLL.

YOU'RE

[Executive Director’s Report: Brief Update on Release of 2020 CAN Dashboard & Launch of We Can! ATX Website]

UP ON DIRECTOR'S REPORT.

YEAH.

TO FOLLOW UP ON NORA'S PRESENTATION, WE'RE GOING TO DO, UM, SORT OF A MID MONTH CAN USE THIS MONTH.

SO, UH, WHEN YOU SEE THAT THERE'LL BE THE INFORMATION ON, UM, SUBMITTING NOMINATIONS OR APPLYING FOR RIGHT.

UH, POSITION ON THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL.

SO IT JUST, UH, YOU KNOW, MADE IT MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK.

YOU'LL PROBABLY WILL SEE THAT.

UM, YEAH, THERE'S A COUPLE OF THINGS HAPPENING SORT OF MID OCTOBER THAT SEEMED IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR A SPECIAL EDITION OF CANDIES.

SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE KIND OF GETTING THAT OUT THERE AND THE DIALOGUE BEING ONE, RIGHT? SO NORA, OUR COMMUNITY COUNCILS TO HAVING THE, THAT COMMUNITY DIALOGUE AND THEY'RE ALSO RECRUITING MEMBERS.

SO, UM, AND I THINK WE'RE, UM, THERE'S A NONPROFIT SURVEY ALSO THAT WE WANT TO HELP SUPPORT AS WELL.

UM, ADMISSION CAPITALS HELPING WITH AND ONE STAR.

SO, UM, BUT THANKS EVERYBODY FOR BEING ON, ON BOARD.

AND, UM, WE, UM, AND FOR OUR COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, WE DID INVITE OUR COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO, UH, JOIN US FOR THIS CONVERSATION BECAUSE, UH, WHEN WE, WHEN THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MET, WE WERE, UM, WE WERE CONTEMPLATING, HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO A FOUR HOUR RETREAT, WHICH IS USUALLY WHAT WE DO IN NOVEMBER.

UM, BUT WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT SPLIT IT UP TO HAVE KIND OF AN INITIAL CONVERSATION THIS MONTH AND THEN A FOLLOWUP, RIGHT.

TO WHAT DO WE DISCUSS THIS MONTH AT OUR NOVEMBER MEETING, WHICH IS WHERE WE'LL IDENTIFY PRIORITIES FOR THE COMING YEAR, UH, WHICH IS USUALLY WHAT WE DO AT OUR RETREAT.

WE KIND OF, WE GO THROUGH A PROCESS OF SORT OF NARROWING AND FOCUSING IN ON, UH, THE ISSUES THAT SEEM, UM, MOST, UM, MOST RELEVANT TO CAN, RIGHT.

AND ITS ROLE AND ALSO THE NEED MOST ATTENTION IN OUR COMMUNITY.

UM, AND SO WE'LL KINDA GO THROUGH THAT IN THE SECOND HALF OF THIS MEETING IS TO BEGIN THAT PART OF THE CONVERSATION.

AND WE'LL PROBABLY PULL YOU IN BETWEEN THE TWO MEETINGS, UM, BASED ON WHAT WE HEAR RIGHT TODAY.

AND THEN, UM, HOPEFULLY NEXT MONTH WE'LL BE ABLE TO KIND OF NARROW IT TO, UM, SOME ARENAS RELATED TO THE, THE CRISIS RESPONSE THAT, UH, WHERE CAN, CAN PLAY A UNIQUE ROLE GIVEN ITS UNIQUE, UM, A UNIQUE PLACE, RIGHT.

AND THE UNIQUE PLACE THAT IT HOLDS RIGHT IN THE NONPROFIT, UH, INFRASTRUCTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY.

AND, UM, SO, UH, SO KIND OF STAY TUNED FOR THAT.

UH, ONE I'M GOING TO SHARE MY SCREEN.

I THINK IF, UH, I THINK JALINA, OR CARLOS OR JIMMY OR SOMEBODY CAN GIVE ME THAT POWER, UH, BUT THE MAIN, THE REPORT MAINLY I'M NOT GOING TO GO, UH, WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT LANGUAGE ACCESS TO THE SEPARATE ITEMS. SO, UH, I'LL TALK A LITTLE MORE SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THAT DURING THAT ITEM, BUT I WANTED TO JUST GIVE AN UPDATE ON OUR LAUNCH OF THE CAN DASHBOARD AND OUR WEBSITE, OUR NEW WEBSITE.

UM, OH, SO THAT'S THE AGENDA.

UM, AND BASICALLY EVERYTHING IN THE, UH, IN THE SHARE FOLDER IS OPEN ON MY, UH, IS OPEN ON MY, UH, MY, MY SLIDE HERE.

SO THIS IS OUR AGENDA.

YOU SEE, WE'RE GONNA, UM, KIND OF LOOK AT THE CAN DASHBOARD WHERE WE ARE AND THE WEEKEND ATA X PIECE OF IT, LANGUAGE ACCESS, AND THEN KIND OF SHIFT TOWARDS MORE OF A STRATEGIC PRIORITY DISCUSSION.

AND, UH, BUT WE DID PUBLISH THE DASHBOARD.

LET ME SEE WHERE IT IS.

OKAY.

SO, UM, SO WE MAINLY, UM, THIS IS WHAT THE DASHBOARD LOOKS LIKE THIS YEAR.

IT'S BASICALLY A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION AND EACH SLIDE IS A, YOU KNOW, A DIFFERENT INDICATOR, RIGHT? OR FOR INSTANCE, THIS IS A DASHBOARD QUOTE, UNQUOTE FOR SAFETY, JUSTICE, AND ENGAGEMENT AND BASIC NEEDS.

SO I PUT THAT, UH, IT'S NOT ON THE WEBSITE YET, ALTHOUGH THE DATA IS RIGHT AND I'LL, AND I'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO FIND IT, BUT, UM, WE'RE STILL FINISHING

[00:10:01]

UP THE EQUITY ANALYSIS, WHICH WILL BE, UM, KIND OF ATTACHED AT THE END OF THEIR REPORT.

SO THAT'S WHY WE HAVEN'T UPLOADED THIS YET, BUT IT LOOKS AWFULLY SIMILAR, RIGHT.

TO A REGULAR REPORT, EXCEPT IT'S REALLY JUST LIKE A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION AND YOU CAN PRINT IT OUT IF YOU WANT TO.

CAUSE, UM, AGAIN, THIS IS, UM, YOU'LL NOTICE IF I GO BACK UP HERE INDICATIONS, FIND THAT A GREAT EXAMPLE, BUT MOST OF THE DATA WE'RE REPORTING OR RELEASING IN THIS REPORT IS FOR 2018 AND 2019 FOR AIR QUALITY.

CAUSE IT'S, UM, IT'S REPORTED MORE IN REAL TIME.

UM, SO, UM, SO AGAIN, THERE'S A COUPLE OF YEARS, RIGHT? SHIT, YOU KNOW, BETWEEN A CURRENT REALITY AND THEIR DATA THAT WE HAVE HERE, WHICH IS WHY WE DECIDED TO STILL PUBLISH THE DATA AND THE REPORT, BUT NOT, NOT PRINT OUT, YOU KNOW, A THOUSAND OR 1500 COPIES OF IT.

AND WE SHIFTED TO, UM, SO AGAIN, YOU CAN, YOU CAN FIND THAT, UM, IN, UM, IN THAT SHARED FOLDER, BUT I'LL GO TO THE WEEKEND.

ATX IF I CAN SEE MY LINKS UP HERE AT THE TOP, EVENTUALLY LET'S SEE.

AND SO, SO WHEN WE PUBLISHED ALONGSIDE, UM, THE DASHBOARD, ACTUALLY LET ME SHOW YOU THE DASHBOARD ITSELF HERE.

UM, SO IF YOU, I'M KIND OF GOING BACK TO OUR REGULAR WEBSITE, RAYS, WE HAVE KEN ATX AND THEN THE NEW SIDE IS WE CAN ATX, BUT THIS IS KIND OF WHERE YOU CAN PRETTY EASILY NAVIGATE TO, UM, THE TOOLS THAT WE WE MOST HIGHLIGHT OR USE.

SO YOU HAVE OUR DASHBOARD EQUITY BLOG PODCAST.

UH, SO YOU CAN JUST GO TO KEN ETA SITE OR YOU CAN GET JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE PRETTY QUICK AND MAYBE SAVE A FEW KEYSTROKES.

UM, AND SO YOU CLICK ON DASHBOARD.

SO ALL THAT INFORMATION ON THE PDF THAT'S IN THE ATTACHMENT IS ALREADY UPLOADED.

IT'S ALREADY UPDATED ON, ON THE, UM, ON THE WEBSITE, RIGHT? SO THIS IS THE ACTUAL WEBSITE.

IF YOU CLICK ON THESE CIRCLES, YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE DASHBOARD FOR THAT SECTION, WHICH WAS THE ONE WITH, UH, THAT SHOWS YOU OUR FIVE-YEAR BASELINE, OUR MOST RECENT DATA, OUR TARGET AND THE FIVE-YEAR TREND.

UM, AND THEN OF COURSE, IF YOU WANT TO DIG DEEPER INTO AN ISSUE, RIGHT, IF YOU THINK, OH MY GOSH, WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH DRIVING ALONE TO WORK, WHICH IS ACTUALLY GETTING WORSE AND NOT BETTER.

UM, YOU CAN CLICK ON THAT AND YOU CAN SEE SORT OF WHAT THE TREND HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS.

AND, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY CLEARLY IT'S, IT'S, IT'S GOING UP AND THIS IS AN INDICATOR WHERE WE'D LIKE TO SEE THAT LINE GOING DOWN.

UM, BUT THERE'S ALSO THE DRILL DOWN, WHICH KIND OF DIVES INTO EACH ISSUE A LITTLE MORE, RIGHT? SO IN THIS PARTICULAR ONE, YOU CAN SEE HOW PEOPLE GET TO WORK, RIGHT? UM, BASED ON INCOME, RIGHT? 150% OF POVERTY ABOVE 150% OF POVERTY.

AND THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES.

CAUSE YOU CAN COMPARE AUSTIN TO CHARLOTTE, DENVER, HOUSTON, SEATTLE, SAN FRANCISCO, AND THIS SHOWS YOU THE MODES, THE COMMUTE MODE TO GET TO WORK.

AND, UM, AND CLEARLY WE'RE ONE OF THE HIGHEST IN TERMS OF DRIVING ALONE TO WORK.

UM, BUT IN THIS ONE, WE'RE ALSO ONE OF THE HIGHEST IN TELECOMMUTING, WHICH, YOU KNOW, I THINK IS A, WAS A GOOD TREND RIGHT IN 2018, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE REPORTING HERE.

BUT WE KNOW THAT THIS CHART IS GOING TO LOOK VERY DIFFERENT FOR 2020, ONCE THAT DATA BECOMES AVAILABLE.

UM, BUT AGAIN, JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA, SORT OF THE FACT THAT, UH, THE PDF IS KIND OF A STATIC DOCUMENT OR THE REPORT THAT WE PUBLISH.

UM, BUT THE, UM, THE DASHBOARD ITSELF, UM, YOU KNOW, THERE'S MORE INTERACTIVE, RIGHT.

AND IT'S EASIER KIND OF TO NAVIGATE.

AND, UM, BUT I STILL LIKE THE PAPER VERSION OF MYSELF, UM, FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES, YOU KNOW, I LIKE TO WRITE ON STUFF.

AND SO IT ALLOWS ME TO MAKE NOTES AND DOCUMENT SOME OF MY THINKING ON PAPER.

UM, BUT WE ALSO ALONGSIDE THE DASHBOARD LODGE THE WEEKEND ATX AND, UM, AND AGAIN, IT KIND OF MORPHED DURING THE PROCESS, YOU KNOW, WE, UM, WHAT IT WAS GOING TO BE.

UM, BUT IT'S REALLY, UM, A WAY TO GO FROM JUST PRESENTING DATA, TO PRESENTING DATA IN A WAY WHERE WE CAN ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AROUND IT.

UM, SO IN THIS PARTICULAR FORMAT, WE HAVE A GET INFORMED TAB, RIGHT.

WHICH IS, IT HAS DATA RIGHT NOW.

IT HAS DATA AS MUCH SPECIFIC TO THE COVID RESPONSE, RIGHT.

BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION WE'RE IN AND THE FACT THAT THE DATA WE HAVE ON OUR DASHBOARD, ISN'T, IT DOESN'T REALLY REFLECT REALITY RIGHT NOW.

SO, UM, SO WE HAVE THAT DATA ELEMENT.

WE HAVE THE GET HELP, YOU KNOW, IF I WANT TO GET HELP BECAUSE I NEED FOOD

[00:15:01]

OR I NEED HOUSING ASSISTANCE OR UTILITY ASSISTANCE, UM, HOW DO I DO THAT? IF I'M, YOU KNOW, IF I WENT, APPLY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE, GET MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT, KIND OF, HOW DO I DO THAT? AND THEN OF COURSE, TO GET ENGAGED, WHICH IS IF I WANT TO HELP, HOW DO I HELP? UM, AND SO REALLY THIS IS GONNA BE KIND OF ONE OF OUR PORTAL FOR THE ENGAGEMENT AROUND THE DATA, RIGHT.

AND NOT JUST THE HERE'S DATA, HERE'S A REPORT, HERE'S THE RESEARCH.

UM, HERE'S SOME RECOMMENDATIONS, BUT ALSO HERE'S HOW WE CAN ENGAGE AROUND, UM, THESE ISSUES.

AND SO I'LL TELL YOU JUST, I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO VERY, UH, IN DEPTH, BUT YOU CAN PLAY WITH IT.

THIS IS, WE CAN ATX IT, IT WAS ACTUALLY ALREADY A CAN WEBSITE, BUT IT WAS MORE OF A, A HUNDRED DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN VOLUNTEER IN THE COMMUNITY SORT OF A WEBSITE, UM, WHICH I DO THINK WE'RE GOING TO TAKE THAT INFORMATION AND CREATE, UM, A, BE AN ACTUAL PUBLICATION OUT OF IT SO THAT WE DON'T LOSE THAT.

UM, BUT WE THOUGHT THAT THE WEEKEND ATX COULD BE A PORTAL FOR ENGAGEMENT MORE THAN JUST, HERE'S SOME MORE INFORMATION, JUST LIKE OUR, YOU KNOW, OUR MAIN WEBSITE IS A BUNCH OF INFORMATION, HOPEFULLY IT'S USEFUL AND HOPEFULLY YOU'LL USE IT.

RIGHT.

UH, SO UNDER GET INFORMED.

SO AGAIN, JUST SO YOU SEE WHAT, UM, WHAT WE TRY TO DO WITH IT, YOU KNOW, SO WE DO PRESENT SOME OF THE COVID DATA, BUT IT'S, IT'S NOT A DASHBOARD.

LIKE WHAT DO WE SEE FROM THE CITY OR THE COUNTY OR THE STATE? IT'S A, IT'S KIND OF INTENDED TO, YOU KNOW, WE USE MORE OF THESE, UM, DAILY, UM, WE'RE JUST CHARTING THESE DAILY COUNTS, RIGHT? SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THE TRENDS.

AND OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN SEE WHEN IT'S SPIKED AND YOU CAN SEE THAT IT'S COMING DOWN.

AND, UM, SO HOPEFULLY AGAIN, YOU CAN GLEAN SOMETHING FROM THIS APPROACH WHERE, WHEN YOU LOOK AT A DASHBOARD AND THERE'S 10 DIFFERENT THINGS ON THE DASHBOARD, IT'S HARD TO KNOW WHICH ONE'S THE IMPORTANT ONE.

RIGHT? UM, SO THIS IS KIND OF ONE COVID, UM, THIS IS ANOTHER ONE AND THIS IS, I MEAN, THE ONE THAT I SAW WAS MOSTLY BROKEN DOWN BY RACE.

AND SO YOU CAN SEE THE DISPARITIES BY RACE, RIGHT.

IN TERMS OF HOSPITALIZATIONS.

AND SO YOU SEE THAT THE GREEN IS FOR THE HISPANIC POPULATION, THE ORANGE IS FOR THE WHITE POPULATION AND BLUE IS FOR THE AFRICAN AMERICAN POPULATION.

AND, UM, AND SO AGAIN, IT'S, IT'S JUST A DIFFERENT WAY OF KIND OF TRYING TO PRESENT THE DATA AND HOPEFULLY MAKE SENSE OF IT IN A LITTLE, IN A LITTLE WAY, IN A WAY, RIGHT.

WITHOUT IT BEING NECESSARILY A DASHBOARD.

AND, UM, AND I'LL JUST SHOW THAT TWO, ONE, ONE, CAUSE AGAIN, THIS IS ANOTHER ONE WHERE WE'VE BEEN TRACKING IT SINCE MID MARCH.

THIS IS THE CAUSE TO TWO, ONE, ONE, RIGHT BY CATEGORY.

UH, SO YOU HAVE THE HOUSING, FOOD, HEALTH ASSISTANCE, UTILITY ASSISTANCE, AND IT'S KIND OF INTERESTING TO SEE HOW EACH OF THOSE PARTICULAR AREAS OF NEED RIGHT.

UM, HAS BEEN AFFECTED AS THE, UM, UM, AS THE PANDEMIC HAS UNFOLDED.

AND YOU SEE, UM, IN TERMS OF HEALTH, RIGHT? THE PURPLE WHEN YOU SEE THE SPIKES, RIGHT, RIGHT.

IN APRIL.

AND WHEN WE WERE REALLY HARD, RIGHT.

WHEN, WHEN THE CASES WERE REALLY HIGH, YOU CAN REALLY SEE, YOU KNOW, THAT FOLKS WERE LOOKING FOR THAT ASSISTANCE WITH TESTING OR WITH, UH, WITH, UH, HEALTH, HEALTH, UH, HEALTH SERVICES.

UM, AND YOU ALSO SEE THAT HOUSING HAS REMAINED REALLY HIGH ON THIS AND WHICH IS THE LIGHT GREEN AND THE DARK GREEN IS THE FOOD.

AND THAT'S FLUCTUATED A LOT MORE, BUT IT'S STARTING TO COME DOWN.

UM, SO ANYWAYS, SO OBVIOUSLY JUST LIKE THE DASHBOARD WEBSITE, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE WEBSITES WHERE YOU CAN PROBABLY GO IN THERE AND PLAY AROUND WITH IT FOR A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN, UM, WHAT YOU CAN CLEAN FROM IT.

WE DID KIND OF INCLUDE, UM, SORT OF SOME OF THE COVID DASHBOARD CHAIR AT THE BOTTOM.

SO IF YOU DID WANT TO GO TO THOSE, BUT HERE'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT WITH THE DASHBOARDS IS, YOU KNOW, THERE'S SO MUCH THERE.

I'M LIKE, WHERE DO I LOOK AT? AND I GUESS IF YOU HAVE TIME TO GO AND CLICK AND, UM, AND EXPLORE, UM, WHICH I TYPICALLY DO, I GO IN AND EXPLORE IT.

UM, BUT, UH, WE, WE TRY TO HAVE OUR DATA BE A LITTLE MORE SPECIFIC TO WHERE ARE WE WITH CASES? WHERE ARE WE WITH HOSPITALIZATIONS? WHERE ARE WE WITH BEDS? WHERE ARE WE WITH, UM, SORT OF ECONOMIC RELIEF PROGRAMS, RIGHT? UH, WHICH A LOT OF OUR PARTNERS HAVE, HAVE ADOPTED WHAT IS THREE, ONE, ONE CALL DATA, TELL US.

AND, UH, BUT THERE ARE SOME LINKS HERE, YOU KNOW, LIKE IF YOU WANT A MAP OF THE TWO, ONE, ONE DATA, THEN CHILDREN'S OPTIMAL.

HEALTH HAS CREATED THIS, UH, YOU KNOW, THIS SITE.

SO YOU CAN GO AND LOOK AT EITHER FOOD NEEDS OR, UM, HOUSING NEEDS, UTILITY NEEDS, ET CETERA.

UM, AND THEN, AND I'LL JUST SHOW YOU WHAT THE GET HELP LOOKS LIKE.

CAUSE THAT'S, THAT'S A LITTLE MORE STRAIGHTFORWARD, UM, AND YOU'LL NOTICE THE LANGUAGE

[00:20:01]

TABS.

SO ORIGINALLY THIS WAS GOING TO BE A TOOL THAT WE WERE GOING TO USE FOR OUR LANGUAGE ACCESS WORK WITH OUR LANGUAGE ACCESS ACTION TEAM.

SO IT'S BEEN DESIGNED, IT'S TRIED TO BE DESIGNED IN A VERY STREAMLINED MANNER SO THAT WE CAN TRANSLATE IT INTO A LOT OF DIFFERENT LANGUAGES.

SO YOU SEE ENGLISH AND SPANISH RIGHT NOW.

UM, SO ALL I HAVE TO DO IS CLICK ON SPANISH AND IT'LL GIVE YOU THE QUESTIONS IN IT IN ORDER THE INFORMATION IN SPANISH, SAME THING WITH THE MAPS AND THE CHARTS, YOU KNOW, THAT STUFF IS, IS ALSO TRANSLATED, WHICH IS, IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL, RIGHT? IN TERMS OF HOW WE DO THINGS OR HOW TRANSLATIONS, WHAT USUALLY IT'S DOCUMENTS SPECIFIC AND NOT SORT OF WEBSITES SPECIFIC.

UM, BUT HERE WE KIND OF FOCUS ON IN TERMS OF GETTING HELP IS, YOU KNOW, GETTING HELP WITH COVID WITH UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, UM, GETTING HELP, YOU KNOW, IF YOU EXPERIENCED SOME ABUSE AND NEGLECT AND GETTING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, YOU KNOW, MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT.

UM, AND AGAIN, THE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS SITE IS WE CAN TAILOR IT TO WHATEVER THE CURRENT NEEDS ARE.

SO IT'S OBVIOUSLY USEFUL RIGHT NOW IN THIS CRISIS, BUT, UM, YOU KNOW, IT'S ALSO A TOOL WHENEVER WE HAVE THE NEXT CRISIS, RIGHT? THE NEXT AREA CANE OR EVACUATION PROCESS OR WHATEVER ISSUE WE'RE DEALING WITH, THEN THIS WILL, THIS WILL BE A, A WEBSITE THAT WE CAN EASILY, UM, ALTER, RIGHT.

OR, OR, OR TAILORED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF WHATEVER ISSUE OR CONDITION WE'RE TRYING TO ADDRESS.

SO I THINK THAT'S ANOTHER REASON I REALLY LIKED THE, THE WAY THAT THIS TURNED OUT.

AND IT TOOK A LONG TIME, AS YOU ALL KNOW, ESPECIALLY MY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, BUT, UM, BUT WE THINK, I THINK CAN STAFF AND OUR LANGUAGE ACCESS TEAM WHO REALLY HELPED GUIDE SORT OF WHAT THIS WAS GOING TO LOOK LIKE.

AND OF COURSE, JUSTIN, WHO'S THE WEB, THE WEB DESIGNER, UH, WHO TOOK MY, UH, MY LITTLE SCRIBBLINGS AND PUT THEM, UH, AND MADE A WEBSITE OUT OF THEM.

AND, UM, I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT.

AND, UH, BEFORE WE KIND OF SHIFT INTO OTHER TOPICS, JUST TO HAVE ANY CONVERSATIONS ABOUT, UM, EITHER WHERE WE ARE WITH A DASHBOARD OR WHERE WE ARE WITH THIS WEBSITE AND HOW, HOW WE PLAN TO USE IT.

I MEAN, I WILL SAY FOR THE WEBS, FOR THIS PARTICULAR WEBSITE THAT, UM, THE LANGUAGES WE HAVE, UH, WE PLAN TO TRANSLATE IT INTO NEXT IS CHINESE VIETNAMESE ARABIC.

AND, UM, UM, LET'S SEE, BURMESE, I BELIEVE.

YEAH.

AND WE KIND OF WORKED WITH, UH, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE CITY INTERFAITH ACTION, YOU KNOW, GROUPS HAD WORKED WITH REFUGEES TO SEE HOW COULD WE, YOU KNOW, BEST HOW COULD WE MAKE THIS AS MOST AS USEFUL AS WE COULD WRITE IT IN THE COMMUNITY.

AND THEN BEFORE WE LAUNCH ANYTHING LIKE THIS IS WE'LL WIND UP, REACH OUT TO THOSE COMMUNITIES, RIGHT.

TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THIS RESOURCE IS GOING TO BE AVAILABLE.

SO WE'RE GOING TO PLAN A, UM, LIKE A PRESS EVENT TO LAUNCH THE SPANISH VERSION OF THIS, RIGHT.

WITH THE SPANISH LANGUAGE MEDIA.

AND SO HOPEFULLY AGAIN, WHENEVER WE LAUNCH A NEW LANGUAGE AGAIN, WE'LL DO THAT LEGWORK OF REACHING OUT TO THOSE COMMUNITIES AND MAKING SURE AGAIN, THAT FOLKS KNOW THIS IS AVAILABLE.

AND NOT JUST THAT IT'S MORE INFORMATION THAT'S IN CYBERSPACE WRITER IN THE INTERNET FOR, FOR SOMEONE TO USE, IF THEY CAN FIND IT.

SO, SO WE ARE LOOKING AT THIS AS AN ENGAGEMENT TOOL AND NOT JUST ANOTHER WAY OF PUTTING INFORMATION OUT THERE BECAUSE, UM, THAT'S, YOU KNOW, IF YOU LOOK AT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN, THERE WAS THAT CLEAR.

IT CAN'T JUST BE ABOUT RESEARCH AND DATA.

IT, IT SHOULD ALSO BE ABOUT ENGAGING RIGHT AROUND WHAT THE RESEARCH AND THE DATA ARE TELLING US.

SO, UM, I'LL HAND IT BACK TO, UH, OUR CHAIR TO SEE IF ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS AND WELL, IT'S A CREDIT ROLL TO THE STAFF AND ALL THE FOLKS INVOLVED IN PUTTING THIS TOGETHER.

UM, Y'ALL PROBABLY KNOW I WAS A WEB DEVELOPER BEFORE I WAS A COUNCIL MEMBER.

AND SO I KNOW IT IS NOT EASY NECESSARILY TO PUT THESE THINGS TOGETHER AND IT'S NOT A TALL, IT'S NOT A SMALL ASK TO THEN MAINTAIN THESE RESOURCES AND AS MUCH WORK AS WAS PUT IN TO BUILD IT, UM, KEEPING IT UP TO DATE IS GOING TO BE A BIG TASK AND SOMETHING THAT I THINK THE BOARD NEEDS TO KEEP IN MIND AS WE THINK ABOUT FUTURE BUDGETS AND STAFF SUPPORT.

AND, UM, IT'S OFTEN EASY, I THINK, TO FOCUS ON THE NEW PROJECTS AND FORGET ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE COSTS OF, OF THESE PROJECTS.

UM, IS MY, MY QUESTION REALLY IS ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO GET THE WORD OUT, UM, ABOUT THIS.

UM, I THINK SOMETIMES WE SET UP GOOD STUFF AND THEN WE DON'T THINK ABOUT HOW IT'S GONNA, I KNOW YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT IT, BUT CAN YOU JUST TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE PROMOTION AND THE MARKETING? IT IS? WELL, I THINK THAT WE'LL SEE IN ADDITION TO, I MEAN, WE'LL JUST PROMOTE THIS ALONGSIDE OUR DASHBOARD, RIGHT.

JUST

[00:25:01]

THE WAY WE TRY TO PROMOTE THE AVAILABILITY OF THE DATA, BUT ALSO SORT OF THIS WEBSITE, THAT'S MORE FOCUSED ON ENGAGEMENT.

AND, UM, SO I THINK THAT, UM, BUT THAT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING, UH, AGAIN, IT'S ANOTHER TOOL, RIGHT? JUST LIKE OUR PODCAST IS ANOTHER TOOL, RIGHT.

TO GET OUR MESSAGE OUT THERE AND, UM, THE EQUITY BLOGS, AND OTHER WAY TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT THERE ABOUT IMPORTANT INFORMATION, EITHER THAT WE'RE WORKING ON OR IMPORTANT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY.

UM, AND, UM, AND I THINK THAT WE'RE, UM, YOU KNOW, I THINK THIS IS AGAIN, JUST ANOTHER TOOL FOR GETTING US, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, ANOTHER, ANOTHER, SO THAT WE'RE NOT PIGEONHOLED AS THE GROUP THAT DOES THE DASHBOARD.

RIGHT.

AND THAT'S IT.

UM, BUT, UH, I REALLY DO THINK THAT THAT'S, UM, THIS IS GOING TO BE A PIECE THAT HELPS US TO ENGAGE MORE DIRECTLY.

UM, I THINK WE WILL PROBABLY HAVE MORE INFORMATION UNDER SORT OF GET HELP.

RIGHT.

YOU KNOW, UM, TRYING TO INTEGRATE SOME OF OUR WHO'S DOING WHAT RIGHT AROUND THE DIFFERENT ISSUES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

UM, CAUSE WE'VE TALKED ABOUT MAYBE FOR EACH LANGUAGE COMMUNITY HAVING A RESOURCE PAGE.

RIGHT.

JUST CAUSE EACH COMMUNITY MIGHT HAVE A DIFFERENT SET OF RESOURCES RIGHT.

IN TERMS OF CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS OR IN TERMS OF, UH, FAITH, FAITH INSTITUTIONS OR, UM, PROGRAMS, YOU KNOW, THAT ARE TARGETED TO THOSE COMMUNITIES.

SO, UM, SO I DEFINITELY THINK THAT, UM, IT'LL HELP US KIND OF REACH DIVERSE AUDIENCES.

RIGHT.

UM, MORE EFFECTIVELY.

UM, BUT IT IS GOING TO TAKE WORK.

I MEAN, I THINK LETTING HAVE HAVING IT USED AS A, IT DOESN'T JUST HAPPEN ON ITS OWN.

I DEFINITELY TAKE THAT.

UH, UM, CAUSE AGAIN, I THINK THAT'S THE, WHAT WE'LL FIND IS THAT IF WE DO ALL THE WORK TO GET THE INFORMATION OUT THERE, THEN WE WANT IT TO GET USED.

AND WE DO PLAN TO KIND OF CREATE DIFFERENT MECHANISMS BY WHICH TO, UM, LIKE SET UP LITTLE BULLETIN BOARDS, YOU KNOW, EVENTUALLY RIGHT.

SO THAT PEOPLE CAN SIGN UP FOR, FOR UPDATES AND NEWSLETTERS AND BULLETINS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO, UM, SO I THINK SLOWLY WE'LL BE, UH, DEVELOPING THIS OUT SO THAT IT HAS A USEFUL THINGS THAT PEOPLE CAN CONNECT WITH.

AND, UM, ONE THING WE'VE TALKED ABOUT ON THE LANGUAGE SIDE IS THAT IS, IS TO CREATE LIKE A, A NUMBER THAT FOLKS CAN TEXT IF THEY WANT THE, THE LANGUAGE ID CARD.

LET'S SAY IF THERE'S THESE CARDS THAT THE CITY DESIGNED THAT SAY I SPEAK CHINESE OR I SPEAK SPANISH.

RIGHT.

I SPEAK.

BUT IF WE CAN SET UP A TEXT NUMBER WHERE THEY CAN TEXT AND THEY CAN GET THE CARD ON THEIR PHONE, THEN THEY CAN JUST SHOW IT WHENEVER THEY GET TO THEIR APPOINTMENTS.

UM, OR WHENEVER THEY TRY TO GET ON THE BUS.

I KNOW WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH CAP METRO ON THAT AS WELL.

HOW DO WE, IF SOMEONE DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH AND IS TRYING TO GET ON THE BUS AND HAS A QUESTION, THEN HOW DO WE, HOW DO WE GET THEM AN INTERPRETER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE? SO, UM, SO I THINK THAT IT'S JUST THOSE KIND OF DIFFERENT WAYS OF INTERACTING WITH THE COMMUNITY TO CREATE, RIGHT? SO IT'S NOT JUST A STATIC SITE, RIGHT.

WHERE THERE'S LINKAGES AND PEOPLE CAN SIGN UP FOR SORT OF TEXT UPDATES OR, UM, DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT KINDS OF INFORMATION.

BUT THOSE FEATURES AREN'T QUITE THERE YET.

BUT I DO THINK THAT, UM, ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW WITH THE COVID-19, THERE'S A LOT OF INFORMATION THAT THAT'S, UH, THAT'S VERY USEFUL AND LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THAT IT'S THERE AND THAT YOU CAN, UM, YOU CAN GO THERE AND KIND OF NAVIGATE THROUGH A LOT OF, A LOT OF INFORMATION, UH, PRETTY QUICKLY I THINK WANTS ME TO START GETTING INTO OTHER LANGUAGES.

IT MIGHT BE GOOD TO WORK WITH OUR CHAMBERS ON WHAT COMMUNITY PUBLICATIONS EXIST IN THOSE LANGUAGES THAT MIGHT BE WORTH A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS OF ADS, JUST LETTING FOLKS KNOW THAT THERE ARE RESOURCES IN THEIR LANGUAGE AVAILABLE THROUGH, THROUGH THIS SITE.

THAT MIGHT BE ANOTHER GOOD OPTION TO PUT ON THE TABLE.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR A ROLL OF THE STAFF ABOUT THIS? YEAH.

I JUST ALSO WANTED TO SAY KUDOS TO THE TEAM.

UM, THIS IS REALLY COOL AND I'M A DATA NERD, SO I LOVE IT ALL.

UM, I ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY ON OUR BOARD TO SHARE THROUGH THEIR NETWORKS AS WELL.

I KNOW THAT THIS IS REALLY USEFUL INFORMATION, UM, IN ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY FACING PROGRAMS. UM, AND I FULLY AGREE WITH WHAT COUNCIL MEMBERS FLANAGAN SAID ABOUT SHARING WITH, UM, NEIGHBORHOOD AND, UM, IDENTITY GROUPS AND, UM, YOU KNOW, UH, DIFFERENT PUBLICATIONS.

UM, AND I THINK THAT THAT IS, UH, MORE EASILY DONE THROUGH SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP AS WELL.

SO THANK YOU FOR DOING IT AGAIN.

I THINK WHEN ONE THING I'LL MENTION IS WE, WE HAD TALKED ABOUT MAYBE IN NOVEMBER DOING JUST A SERIES OF SOCIAL MEDIA, UM, LIKE A CAMPAIGN, RIGHT, BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH HERE, RIGHT.

[00:30:01]

IT'S JUST, JUST TO HIGHLIGHT JUST HOW MUCH THERE IS ON THE PAGE AND JUST HAVE MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK WHERE WE HIGHLIGHT SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM THIS NEW RESOURCE.

AND, UM, AND, AND JUST KINDA, AGAIN, JUST INTRODUCE A RESOURCE RIGHT.

IN THE, IN A WAY THAT, UH, PEOPLE REALIZE THAT IT'S THERE AND IT'S, UM, AND IT'S USEFUL, YOU KNOW, IN A WAY THAT'S VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE CAN DASHBOARD ITSELF.

UM, BUT VERY EXCITED THAT THE, IT ALL CAME TOGETHER.

I WOULD TELL, I KEEP TELLING MY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, THIS IS GOING TO BE THREE DIFFERENT WEBSITES.

UM, AND NOW IT'S ONE, RIGHT? AND AS, AS A COUNCIL MEMBER WAS ALLUDING TO, I WAS REALLY KIND OF GETTING NERVOUS ABOUT HAVING FIVE WEBSITES AND NOT TWO OR THREE.

RIGHT.

UM, BECAUSE OF THE MANAGEMENT PIECE OF IT.

AND, UM, AND THEN JUSTIN, BASICALLY HE, HE DESIGNED IT IN A WAY WHERE STAFF CAN DO A LOT OF THE UPDATES IF, IF NEEDED.

UM, THE LANGUAGE PIECE IS PRETTY TRICKY, BUT AGAIN, WE ALSO DESIGNED IT IN A WAY WHERE HOPEFULLY A LOT OF THE, ESPECIALLY THE DATA PIECES CAN BE TRANSLATED MORE AUTOMATICALLY THAN HAVING TO CREATE 20 DIFFERENT CHARTS FOR EACH, FOR EACH LANGUAGE TAB.

SO, UM, SO WE DEFINITELY THOUGHT ABOUT THAT, UH, COUNCIL MEMBER ABOUT HOW DO WE CREATE IT SO THAT IT CAN BE MAINTAINED WITHOUT HAVING TO HAVE SOMEONE SPEND HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS EACH WEEK.

RIGHT.

TRYING TO KEEP IT UP TO DATE.

SO, UM, SO THAT WAS IN THEORY, THAT'S HOW WE DID IT.

AND THEN THAT WE'LL SEE IF WE CAN PULL IT OFF, WHICH I THINK WE CAN, UH, WORDPRESS IS, IS A GREAT THING FROM MY POINT OF VIEW.

CAUSE I CAN UNDERSTAND IT AND I CAN, AND I CAN DO SOME, SOME LIPSTICK, UM, ON THIS.

LET ME STOP SHARING AND SEE IF THERE'S ANY WAVING HANDS OR I THINK WE'RE GOOD.

UH, THANKS AGAIN, ROLL AND STUFF FOR THE HARD WORK ON THAT.

UM, AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT PROMOTING IT AND I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE HOW THAT LOOKS WITH A THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH LANGUAGE START FEELING, SEEING THAT REALLY FILL OUT, THAT'LL BE REALLY COOL AS A RESOURCE FOR THE COMMUNITY.

UM,

[Discussion and Possible Action on the Establishment of Central Texas Language Access Fund]

OUR NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS ESTABLISHING THE LANGUAGE ACCESS.

SURE.

AND I DO SEE KIND OF A NOTE THAT WE DO HAVE ONE NUMBER THAT ISN'T IDENTIFIED.

IT'S A PHONE NUMBER.

UM, SO MAYBE IF THE PERSON WAS ON THE PHONE, UM, IT'S TWO, NINE, NINE 85, 29.

IF YOU CAN JUST LET US KNOW WHO YOU ARE JUST FOR THE, FOR THE RECORD.

UM, WE'LL KEEP TRYING.

I CAN'T REMEMBER.

IT'S LIKE STAR SOMETHING.

I AM, WELL, LET ME ANYBODY REMEMBER WHAT THAT IS.

HOW DO WE END MEAT? UM, I THOUGHT THE HOSE COULD UNMUTE, BUT I DON'T THINK I'M, UH, UH, ARE THERE IT IS.

IT'S A MUTED NOW.

SO WHO IS ANYBODY ON THE PHONE? WHO YOU ARE? YUP, SURE CAN.

OKAY.

WELL, ALRIGHT.

THANKS WALTER.

APPRECIATE IT.

ALL RIGHT.

AND UM, SO I'LL GO BACK TO SHARING.

AND THIS IS AGAIN BEFORE I KIND OF CLOSED THE SCREEN AGAIN, SO WE CAN SEE PEOPLE FOR A LITTLE BIT, UM, IS WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON LANGUAGE ACCESS FOR, YOU KNOW, THREE TO FOUR YEARS NOW.

UM, AND UH, WE HAVE AN ACTION TEAM THAT'S, YOU KNOW, CONTINUE TO MEET.

UM, WE, WE HAD, WE, WE BASICALLY ADOPTED OUR LANGUAGE ACCESS REPORT AT THE END OF 2017, RIGHT.

BEGINNING OF 2018.

SO WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THAT COMMITTEE TO TRY TO IMPLEMENT SOME OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS IN THAT REPORT AND I'M CREATING THIS VEHICLE RIGHT FOR, UH, ENGAGING, UM, DIFFERENT LANGUAGE COMMUNITIES.

IT WAS ONE OF THOSE BIG, BIG THINGS IN THE REPORT.

SO THE, UH, THE WEEKEND ATX SIDE, THE WAY WE DESIGNED IT KIND OF FULFILLS KIND OF ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS IS TO HAVE A MECHANISM BY WHICH TO KIND OF CONNECT WITH COMMUNITIES, VITAL INFORMATION, RIGHT.

AND RESOURCES, UM, AND, AND, UM, IN MANY DIFFERENT LANGUAGES.

SO WE DO HOPE EVENTUALLY THAT THE WEBSITE WILL GO UP TO ABOUT 10, 10 LANGUAGES OR MORE.

UM, AND FOR THAT REASON AS THE, AND AGAIN, AS A COUNCIL MEMBER WAS ALLUDING TO AS WELL, THEN IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN BECAUSE ANYTIME YOU CHANGE THE WEBSITE, THEN YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE WEBSITE AND ALL OF THE LANGUAGES.

SO THERE'S A COST ASPECT TO IT AND ALSO A LOGISTICAL ASPECT TO IT.

UM, AND SO THE PROPOSAL THAT WE'VE KIND OF BROUGHT FORWARD IS, AND IS TRYING TO TAKE THE WORK TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

RIGHT.

YOU KNOW, ONCE KEN HAS SUPPORTED COLLABORATION FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, YOU KNOW, IT KIND OF HAS KIND OF MATURES AND SORT

[00:35:01]

OF HAS TO GO OFF IN A PARTICULAR DIRECTION, OR MAYBE WE'VE DONE THE WORK THAT WAS NEEDED OR THAT WE COULD DO.

AND WE MOVE ON TO ANOTHER ISSUE.

SO LIKE WITH THE RACE EQUITY WORK WE'VE BEEN DOING ALSO FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS, YOU KNOW, THAT LAST MONTH BECAME THE CENTRAL TEXAS, UH, FOR RACIAL EQUITY.

SO THAT WAS ONE EXAMPLE.

WE KIND OF INCUBATED THIS SORT OF COLLABORATIVE AND THEN IT SORT OF MATURED AND TOOK ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN, UH, WITH LANGUAGE ACCESS, YOU KNOW, WHAT THE DIRECTION WE'RE TRYING TO TAKE IT IS TO CREATE, UM, A COMMUNITY FUND AT THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, RIGHT? TO TRY TO IDENTIFY RESOURCES SPECIFICALLY TO IMPROVE LANGUAGE SERVICES OR, UH, EXPAND LANGUAGE ACCESS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND DO SO IN A WAY THAT AGAIN, A LOT OF DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS CAN BENEFIT, RIGHT, CREATE RESOURCES AND AVENUES FOR LEVERAGING RESOURCES AND ALIGNING OUR EFFORTS IN HOW WE APPROACH LANGUAGE ACCESS, UM, NOT JUST ACROSS OUR PARTNERS, WHICH IF WE DID A BETTER JOB, JUST OUR PARTNERS, THAT WOULD BE AMAZING, BUT HOPEFULLY WE CAN ALSO HAVE OTHER COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS, UM, BENEFIT FROM THE WORK.

UM, AND SO, AND WE'VE NEVER DONE REALLY PROGRAM SPECIFIC FUNDRAISING FOR CAN ACTUALLY, WE DON'T DO ANY FUNDRAISING IS THE GENEROSITY FROM OUR PARTNERS, RIGHT? YOUR ANNUAL CONTRIBUTION IS WHAT PAYS FOR, UM, OUR OPERATING ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGET.

AND SO WE WANTED TO CREATE A VEHICLE BY WHICH TO SUPPORT, RIGHT.

UM, OR POTENTIALLY LET'S SAY SUPPORT A PROGRAM, WHICH IN THIS CASE IS THE LANGUAGE ACCESS WORK THAT WE DO CAUSE WE'VE BEEN DOING IT, YOU KNOW, FOR FOUR YEARS NOW.

SO IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE IT CAN, ISN'T REALLY STRUCTURED SO THAT IT IT'S, IT ONLY WORKS ON ONE ISSUE, RIGHT.

WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PIVOT RIGHT.

BASED ON WHAT THE DATA'S TELLING US THAT THE NEEDS ARE AND, AND, AND, AND WHAT OUR ROLE IS.

SO, UM, SO THE PROPOSAL IS TO CREATE A FUND THAT THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT THE LANGUAGE ACCESS WORK, AND IF WE'RE SUCCESSFUL IN SECURING FUNDING FOR THAT WORK, THEN THAT HOPEFULLY HELPS TO FUND THE STAFF SUPPORT THAT'S NEEDED, RIGHT.

FOR THAT WORK, FREEING UP OUR STAFF TO FOCUS ON OTHER ISSUES THAT THE BOARD WANTS US TO WORK ON.

UM, AND THE REASON WE WANTED TO CREATE A DIFFERENT FUND IS BECAUSE AGAIN, IT'S PROGRAM SPECIFIC, RIGHT.

AND THE SUPPORT THAT OUR PARTNERS GIVE US IS GENERAL OPERATING, RIGHT? SO I DIDN'T WANT TO COMMINGLE FUNDS THAT MAYBE OUR PARTNERS WOULD GIVE US FOR GENERAL OPERATING WITH SOMETHING THAT'S PROGRAM SPECIFIC.

CAUSE IF WE WOULD WANT THEM TO STOP SUPPORTING THE PROGRAM AND THEN DECIDED, WELL, WE'LL TAKE THE GENERAL OPERATING A LOT, YOU KNOW, AT THE SAME TIME.

UM, PLUS AGAIN, IF THIS TAKES OFF THE WAY I THINK IT COULD, IT COULD REALLY HELP, UM, IMPROVE, UH, THE SERVICES RELATED TO LANGUAGE, RIGHT? HOW WE, HOW WE, HOW WE WORK WITH LANGUAGE COMMUNITIES AND HOW WE SERVE THEM.

AND ALSO, UM, AGAIN, JUST, JUST, UH, HOPEFULLY IT'S MORE THAN SELF-SUSTAINING, HOPEFULLY THERE'S ENOUGH RESOURCES THERE THAT IT CAN GROW AND DO A BETTER JOB OF ENGAGING OVERALL.

AND KEN'S JUST NOT STRUCTURED RIGHT.

TO DO IT AS, UH, ONE OF THE VERY REASONS WE, WE STRUCTURED IT THE WAY WE DO WHERE WE HAVE MEMBER CONTRIBUTIONS IS BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT TO BE COMPETING WITH NONPROFITS RIGHT.

FOR FUNDING.

UM, AND SO THIS ONE, UM, IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, OBVIOUSLY THERE WOULD BE SOME FUNDRAISING GOING ON, BUT, UM, I THINK THE IDEA IS, YOU KNOW, THERE'S SO MANY, UM, IF YOU RECEIVE FEDERAL FUNDING, RIGHT, YOU HAVE A LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE LANGUAGE SERVICES.

SO WE FIGURED THIS WAS A WAY OF HELPING FOLKS SORT OF DO SOMETHING OR FULFILL A REQUIREMENT THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE MORE EFFICIENTLY, MORE EFFECTIVELY.

AND HOPEFULLY IF EVENTUALLY WE GET TO THE POINT WHERE WE PULL OUR RESOURCES, WE COULD HAVE THE MOST DYNAMIC, I THINK, LANGUAGE ACCESS, UM, IN THE COUNTRY, IF WE CAN BUILD THIS OUT SORT OF THE WAY WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT AND OUR ACTION TEAMS. SO, SO THAT'S REALLY THE, THE IDEA AND I'LL KIND OF SHARE THE PROPOSAL AND OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN ACCESS THE PROPOSAL.

UM, LET'S SEE.

SO I'M GOING TO MY PDF AND I NEED TO FIND A LANGUAGE.

OKAY.

SO REALLY THE PROPOSAL TO THE BOARD RIGHT.

IS TO, UM, PROVIDE, UM, IS TO GIVE, IS TO ADOPT A POLICY THAT ALLOWS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A COMMUNITY FUND.

RIGHT.

AND I'VE SORT OF EXPLAINED SOME OF WHY WE'RE DOING IT, OR, UM, AND SO IT KIND OF TALKS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, I MEAN, I TALKED ABOUT OUR OWN FUNDRAISING AND OUR OWN SORT OF THE WAY WE DO OUR WORK.

UH, BUT, BUT I KNOW THERE, UM, CHALLENGE WITH FUNDRAISING RIGHT, IS THAT INTEGRAL CARE IS OUR FISCAL SPONSOR AND

[00:40:01]

THEY HAVE THEIR OWN SORT OF DEVELOPMENT PLANS AND DEVELOPMENT WORK THAT THEY DO.

UM, SO THIS WAY, WE'RE NOT CONFUSING FOLKS WHEN WE, IF WE'RE OUT THERE ASKING FOR MONEY AND ASKING FOLKS TO MAKE THE CHECKS OUT TO INTEGRAL CARE, RIGHT.

THEN THAT CREATES KIND OF SOME CONFUSION ABOUT, SO IS IT AN INTEGRAL CARE ASK? IS IT, IT CAN'T ASK.

SO THIS KIND OF ELIMINATES THAT, UH, THAT CHALLENGE, UM, AND LET'S SEE THE POTENTIAL IMPACT.

I KIND OF TALKED ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT.

UM, BUT AGAIN, I THINK FOR ME, IT'S, IT ALLOWS US, UH, OUR PARTNERS TO LEVERAGE RESOURCES.

THAT'S ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS WE COME TOGETHER, UH, LEVERAGE RESOURCES THAT MAY BE CURRENTLY ARE ALREADY, UM, FOCUSED ON LANGUAGE SERVICES, UH, CREATING RESOURCES TO BETTER SERVE THESE COMMUNITIES AND ENGAGING WITH THESE COMMUNITIES KIND OF CREATING THOSE FEEDBACK LOOPS.

AND, UM, AND AGAIN, HOPEFULLY, UM, YOU KNOW, THE LEVEL OF FUNDING FOR THAT WORK, UM, ALLOWS FOR THE STAFF SUPPORT, RIGHT, FOR THAT WORK, OR, YOU KNOW, ALLOWS FOR PAYING STAFF SPECIFIC STAFF FOR THAT PROGRAM.

SO THAT IN CARLOS ANGELINA, AND I CAN STICK TO, YOU KNOW, THE CORE WORK OF KEN AND THE LANGUAGE ACCESS WORK JUST CONTINUES.

UM, SO THAT'S KIND OF THE BACKGROUND BEFORE I, UM, SORT OF GO INTO THE WHAT'S THE ACTUAL PROPOSAL.

UH, I'LL GO AHEAD AND JUST OPEN IT UP FOR QUESTIONS BEFORE WE, BEFORE WE ACTUALLY CONSIDER WHAT THE EMOTION MIGHT LOOK LIKE.

IT MIGHT BE QUESTIONS FOR STAFF NOT SEEING ANY QUESTIONS.

OF COURSE, WE'VE WORKED ON THIS A LOT AS A BOARD, CERTAINLY AS AN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR AWHILE.

AND, UH, I THINK THIS IS, UH, THIS IS, UH, ABOUT AS GOOD OF A PLACE AS WE CAN BE TO GIVE STAFF THE AUTHORITY TO MOVE FORWARD AND START BUILDING THAT STRUCTURE SO THAT WE'RE, YOU'VE GOT THE ABILITY TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT RULE REBEL LISTED.

SO IN YOUR DOCUMENT ROLE, YOU HAVE A MOTION WRITTEN AT THE END AS A PROPOSED ACTION.

THIS WOULD ALLOW YOU TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS PROCESS, UM, AND IN THE FUTURE, BRING BACK A BUDGET FOR BOARD APPROVAL AND THEN ALLOW THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO, UH, DEVELOP THE PROCEDURES.

SO, YEAH, SO THE MOTION WOULD, UH, WOULD ADOPT A POLICY, RIGHT.

UM, WHERE, UM, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR COULD, UM, DEVELOP A FUND AT THE ACF OR ANOTHER ENTITY, RIGHT.

THAT SERVES AS A FISCAL SPONSOR.

UM, AND, BUT IT HAS TO BE A PROJECT FACILITATED BY US, RIGHT.

SO WE HAVE KIND OF SOME MEASURE OF, OF, OF CONTROL OF SORT OF HOW THE PROJECT IS MANAGED.

UM, THE CANNED BOARD ADOPTS AN ANNUAL BOOK BUDGET FOR THE, FOR THAT FUND, RIGHT? SO WHENEVER I BRING TO Y'ALL THE CAN BUDGET ON GENERAL OPERATING, WE'LL ALSO BRING A BUDGET FOR THE FUND.

AND, UM, AND THE FUND WILL BE OPERATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROCEDURES FOR DEVELOPING, ADOPTING AN AMENDING OF A COMMUNITY FUND BUDGET APPROVED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.

AND AGAIN, THIS IS SOMETHING WHERE, AGAIN, KEN, HASN'T REALLY DONE THIS SORT OF THING WHERE WE HAVE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

UM, BUT THE POLICY IS ALLOWING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A COMMUNITY FUND AND THAT INCLUDES DEVELOPING PROCEDURES RIGHT, FOR HOW THAT'S GONNA WORK.

AND SO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AT THE LAST MEETING ALREADY ADOPTED THESE PROCEDURES FOR DEVELOPING, ADOPTING, AND AMENDING A COMMUNITY FUND, AND REALLY JUST OUTLINES HOW THE, UM, HOW THE, UH, THE BUDGET'S GOING TO WORK.

SO IT WILL FIRST BE APPROVED BY OUR LANGUAGE ACCESS ACTION TEAM, RIGHT IN SEPTEMBER, ROUGHLY, WHICH AGAIN HAS ALREADY HAPPENED.

UH, THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE WOULD APPROVE THE BUDGET IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER, WHICH I THINK WE APPROVED THE BUDGET AT THE LAST MEETING.

UM, AND THEN WE'LL, WHENEVER WE BEING THE MAIN CAN BUDGET FOR A VOTE IN DECEMBER, WE'LL ALSO BRING THE BUDGET FOR, UM, FOR THE FUND AS WELL.

AND SO I GET TO PRESENT IT TO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AGAIN, BEFORE THAT HAPPENS.

UM, AND THEN FINALLY, ANY AMENDMENTS TO THE BUDGET SORT OF ALSO WOULD COME TO THE BOARD, UH, ANY AMENDMENTS OF 5,000 OR MORE, I THINK IT'S, UM, IS HOW IT STATED.

BUT, UH, BUT AGAIN, BECAUSE THE BOARD ADOPTS THE BUDGET, THEN ANY AMENDMENTS WOULD ALSO COME THROUGH THE BOARD.

UM, SO REALLY JUST TRY AND HAVE IT MIRROR SORT OF OUR REGULAR BUDGET PROCESS SO THAT WE'RE CONSIDERING ALL OF OUR, UM, FINANCE, UM, ISSUES AT THE SAME TIME.

AND WE KNOW THAT JUST, I GIVE THE KEN BUDGET CHANGES THAT, UH, THIS COMMUNITY FUND, IF IT CHANGES, WILL IT FOLLOWS THE SAME PROCESS.

SO, AND, UM, OKAY.

[00:45:01]

SO, UH, DO I HAVE A MOTION ALLOWING OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO DEVELOP THIS FUND AND, UH, AS OUTLINED IN OUR CONVERSATION TODAY, I SEE RICH MOVES.

DO I HAVE A SECOND DAVID SMITH SECONDS, ANY DISCUSSION THEN? UH, WITHOUT OBJECTION, I, UH, THIS MOTION IS APPROVED, GOOD JOB STAFF FOR PULLING THIS TOGETHER.

I AM INCREDIBLY EXCITED TO SEE THIS MOVE FORWARD AND, UH, SEE THE BUDGETS COME BACK TO THE BOARD FOR APPROVAL.

WELL, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

I THINK IT'S, UM, YOU KNOW, I WAS, YOU KNOW, TALKING TO OUR, UM, KIND OF COMMITTEE ABOUT FOR ME AGAIN, IT'S JUST KIND OF, IT'S, IT'S KIND OF STARTING TO DEFINE SORT OF HOW SOME OF THE WORK WE DO AND FOLDS, RIGHT.

IS BECAUSE FIRST OF ALL, YOUR ISSUE YOU WORK ON, DOESN'T JUST, DOESN'T GET RESOLVED FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT FIRST OF ALL RIGHT.

BUT THERE IS KIND OF THIS NATURAL EVOLUTION THAT HAPPENS OVER TWO TO THREE YEARS WHERE YOU KIND OF SEE THAT WENT PAST A PARTICULAR, UM, COLLABORATION OR PROJECT THAT WE ARE SUPPORTING, UM, HAS NEEDS TO GO THROUGH, RIGHT.

TO ACTUALLY BE SUCCESSFUL, OR IF IT AIN'T WORKING RIGHT, YOU JUST DECIDED WE'RE GOING TO GO A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.

AND SO NOW THAT LANGUAGE ACCESS IS GOING IN THIS DIRECTION AND OUR RACE EQUITY COLLECTIVE IS PICKING UP SOME OF THE OTHER WORK KEN WAS DOING THEN, UM, IT KIND OF FREES UP CAPACITY FOR WHAT'S THE NEXT PART OF THE CONVERSATION, RIGHT? WHICH IS, UH, WHAT IS GOING TO FOCUS ON, UM, GOING FORWARD RIGHT FROM NOW AND IN 2021 IN RESPONSE TO THESE, UH, THESE, UH, THE PANDEMIC AND THE CRISES THAT HAVE UNFOLDED.

UH, SO REALLY I THINK, UH, THESE TWO DEVELOPMENTS, I REALLY, I THINK IN A FREE UP OUR CAPACITY TO SHIFT GIVEN WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW AS A COMMUNITY AND THE FACT THAT I THINK, UM, THERE IS SUCH A GREAT NEED FOR COLLABORATION AROUND, UH, THESE VERY CHALLENGING ISSUES.

AND SO BEFORE, UM,

[CAN Board Retreat Discussion (Part 1): Recap of Issues & Challenges (Health, Economic, Educational, Legislative, etc.) Discussed in 2020]

KIND OF GOAL, WE'RE GOING TO BREAK UP INTO GROUPS OF LIKE THREE DIFFERENT GROUPS, RIGHT? SO WE CAN HAVE A, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SMALLER, SMALLER GROUP DISCUSSION, BUT I WANT TO JUST REMIND US SORT OF WHAT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN LOOKS LIKE AND SORT OF WHAT SOME OF OUR CONVERSATIONS HAVE BEEN THIS YEAR, RIGHT? SINCE APRIL, WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT, UM, THE COMMUNITY CHALLENGES RELATED TO THE PANDEMIC.

AND, UM, AND SO WHAT KIND OF JUST KINDA, AND THEN THOSE ARE IN THE SHARED DRIVE.

SO IF YOU WANT TO GO LOOK AT THAT, UM, UM, AND THAT STARE AT THE SMALL PRINT AT MY, ON MY SCREEN OR ON YOUR SCREEN, THEN YOU CAN DO THAT.

UM, BUT HERE YOU'LL MAINLY WANT TO CALL ATTENTION TO THE BLUE PART, WHICH IS THE, THE, THE THREE GOALS IN OUR STRATEGIC PLAN, UH, AT OUR NEXT MEETING, I'LL GO THROUGH SORT OF WHERE WE, WHERE WE ARE WITH ALL OF THIS STRATEGIES.

UM, BUT GO ONE IS TO ENHANCE AWARENESS AND COMMUNITY NEEDS AND CHALLENGES REQUIRING COLLABORATIVE ACTION AND OPPORTUNITIES TO GAIT ENGAGE ON THOSE ISSUES.

UM, AND SO I THINK THAT'S, AGAIN, THE INFORMING PART AND ALSO BEGINNING THE, YOU KNOW, IDENTIFICATION OF HOW WE CAN ENGAGE AND THEN GO TO, IS, IS THE ENGAGEMENT PART IS LEAD SUPPORT, FACILITATE COMMUNITY AND PARTNER COLLABORATIONS AIMED AT ADDRESSING IDENTIFIED COMMUNITY NEEDS AND CHALLENGES.

THAT'S REALLY, AGAIN, JUST TWO WAYS OF THINKING OF THE ROLE CAN PLAY IS RIGHT.

ONE IS RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT NEEDS AND ISSUES AND GO TO IS, YOU KNOW, UH, LEADING OR SUPPORTING EFFORTS, RIGHT.

TO ADDRESS THOSE IDENTIFIED ISSUES.

AND, UM, GOAL THREE IS MORE THE ORGANIZATIONAL PIECE, RIGHT? SO HOW DO WE STRENGTHEN THE ORGANIZATION? YOU KNOW, THERE WAS AN ORIENTATION PROGRAM I'VE BEEN HAVING SMALL GROUP MEETINGS WITH NEW MEMBERS TO KIND OF GET THEM ORIENTED TOWARDS KEN.

AND THAT'S BEEN VERY, VERY GOOD, UH, UM, THE PROCESS FOR US TO, TO HAVE THAT IN PLACE.

RIGHT.

UM, AS WE HAVE NEW MEMBERS AND, UH, WE'RE WORKING ON DEVELOPING, UM, AS OURSELVES AS AN NONPROFIT ASSOCIATION AND WE'RE, UM, AGAIN, THERE'S THE ORGANIZATIONAL PIECE, RIGHT? HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THAT THE ORGANIZATION IS STRONG AND HEALTHY? UM, SO REALLY GOING INTO ARE SORT OF THE THINGS TO THINK ABOUT AS WE, AS WE CONSIDER KIND OF THE ROLES ARE, CAN AS THE ENHANCING AWARENESS AROUND THE CHALLENGES AND THE NEEDS AND, UM, AND, AND IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE AROUND THEM AND THEN GO TO IS THE ENGAGEMENT AROUND THOSE ISSUES.

AND, UM, LET'S SEE.

AND SO THIS DOCUMENT THAT'S ALSO KIND OF IN THAT SHARE FOLDER, IT'S KIND OF, I WENT BACK AND SORT OF, I WON'T SAY I LISTENED TO ALL THE BOARD MEETINGS, I'LL SAY I READ THROUGH ALL THE MINUTES.

UM, AND SO THIS HAS KIND OF A, SORT OF A ONE PAGE, YOU KNOW, AS ISSUES EMERGED, RIGHT.

I DIDN'T, I DIDN'T SORT OF SUMMARIZE THE DISCUSSION AROUND THE ISSUES, BUT

[00:50:01]

I WAS TRYING TO KIND OF REMIND US A LITTLE BIT, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT HAVE COME UP IN OUR CONVERSATIONS SINCE APRIL? SO OF COURSE, MITIGATING HEALTH IMPACTS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

UM, THE THINGS I HIGHLIGHTED IN RED AND YELLOW, AND I'LL EXPLAIN THOSE A LITTLE BIT, BUT THE YELLOW IS WHERE KEN IS DOING SOME WORK RIGHT NOW.

SO I WANT TO KIND OF HIGHLIGHT THAT I'M SORT OF UNDER SORT OF MENTAL HEALTH, UM, OR INCREASING AWARENESS AND ACCESS AROUND MENTAL HEALTH AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, UM, IS, UM, WE ACTUALLY JUST HAD A MEETING YESTERDAY WITH MISSION CAPITAL AND INTEGRAL CARE AND, UM, ABOUT EIGHT OTHER GROUPS AROUND, UM, HOW, AND WHEN VOICE WAS OBVIOUSLY A PART OF THAT, UM, CAUSE HOW DO WE SUPPORT NONPROFITS IN SUPPORTING THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THEIR STAFF AND THEIR CLIENTS, JUST BECAUSE, UM, ALL OF THESE CRISES, YOU KNOW, JUST CREATE, UM, A MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM DOES.

AND, UM, AND SO I KNOW THAT, UM, UH, ONE OF THE POST-SURVEY COMMENTS FROM MISSION CAPITAL WAS, YOU KNOW, UM, THE NONPROFITS ASKING FOR HELP, RIGHT IN ADDRESSING THOSE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF STAFF AND THEIR CLIENTS.

SO, SO WE JUST BEGAN TO CONVERSATION AROUND, UH, WHAT WE MIGHT DO KIND OF TO SUPPORT NONPROFITS.

YOU KNOW, THERE'S A LOT OF BROADER ISSUES RELATED TO MENTAL HEALTH, RIGHT.

AND THIS PANDEMIC, BUT THAT'S WHEN, UM, UH, WHERE, UM, I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT, UH, OF COURSE YOU GOT THE MITIGATING, THE ECONOMIC IMPACTS KIND OF REBOOTING THE ECONOMY.

SO HERE WE HAVE ISSUES ABOUT INDIVIDUALS LOOKING FOR WORK THERE'S SPECIFIC ECONOMIC SECTORS THAT HAVE BEEN HARDEST.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR WORKERS AND BUSINESSES, UH, CHILDCARE, RIGHT.

THEY IMPACTED PALEY'S RIGHT.

IN BEING ABLE TO REOPEN, UM, THE CHAMBER, YOU KNOW, ADOPTED ITS OPENING CENTRAL TEXAS FOR BUSINESS REPORT.

UM, AND HERE I HIGHLIGHT THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL, RIGHT.

IT'S BEGINNING KIND OF A DIALOGUE AROUND GETTING BACK TO WORK AND REBUILDING OUR ECONOMY.

SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE BASICALLY AS CONVERSATION WITH COMMUNITY COUNCIL AND FRIENDS, RIGHT.

AND THEN WE'LL SEE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE WANT TO DO MORE OF ONCE WE SEE THE KIND OF FEEDBACK WE GET, WE'LL SEE IF WE WANT TO DO MORE OF THAT, YOU KNOW, IN 20, 21, THE SPRING UNDER EDUCATION, RIGHT.

THERE'S NO SHORTAGE OF ISSUES THERE IN TERMS OF TECHNOLOGY, IN TERMS OF LEARNING SUPPORTS FOR FAMILIES, UM, SUPPORTS FOR EDUCATORS, UM, AROUND SAFETY, YOU KNOW, THIS IS, UM, YOU KNOW, LIKE WITH MENTAL HEALTH, I KIND OF HIGHLIGHTED THAT IN RED AND THIS ONE, UM, INCREASING AWARENESS AND ACCESS TO RESOURCES FOR INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING, UH, EXPERIENCING ABUSE AND NEGLECT.

AND, AND I HIGHLIGHTED BECAUSE IT'S WITH MENTAL HEALTH AND THIS ONE, IT'S THE ISSUES THAT COME UP IN A LOT OF THE CONVERSATIONS, BUT HARDLY EVER GET ADDRESSED BECAUSE USUALLY IT COMES UP WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FOOD ACCESS OR EDUCATION ACCESS, OR, UH, HEALTH ACCESS, UM, LIKE TESTING, RIGHT.

AND, AND, AND, UH, PREVENTION AND, AND, UH, HEALTH SERVICES.

AND WE DON'T ALWAYS GET TO TALK ABOUT THESE ISSUES, BUT THEY COME UP A LOT.

AND SO THOSE ARE, IRINA'S WHERE, AGAIN, I DON'T SEE THAT THERE'S A COLLABORATIVE PER SE.

THERE ARE FOLKS WHO WORK ON THOSE ISSUES, BUT THERE ISN'T LIKE A COMMUNITY EFFORT.

RIGHT.

REALLY AIMED AT ADDRESSING THOSE SORT OF, UM, UM, COLLABORATIVELY AND TO SEE KIND OF WHAT IS NEEDED, RIGHT.

TO DO A BETTER JOB OF ADDRESSING THOSE NEEDS, UH, THEIR BASIC NEEDS, YOU KNOW, I JUST KIND OF MAPPED OUT A COUPLE OF THINGS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IN TERMS OF FOOD ACCESS AND THE EVICTIONS PIECE, RIGHT.

THAT IT'S PART OF A LOT, BUT ISN'T NECESSARILY SOMETHING WE HAVE AN ANSWER FOR.

UM, AND UNDER RELIEF EFFORTS, YOU SEE, I JUST TRY TO MAP OUT WHAT, WHAT FOLKS DIFFERENT PARTNERS MENTIONED THEY'RE DOING RIGHT AS A, AS A, AS A WAY OF RESPONDING TO THE COVID, UM, CRISIS.

AND SO YOU HAVE ALL OF THE PROGRAMS THE CITY HAS DEVELOPED.

WELL, NOT ALL OF THEM, I'LL SAY MULTIPLE PROGRAMS. IT'S NOT A COMPLETE LIST.

AND SO MY APOLOGIES, BUT, UH, IT WAS GONNA MAKE ME GO INTO PAGE TWO AND I JUST CUT IT OFF AT, UH, EIGHT OR NINE RIGHT THERE.

BUT AGAIN, YOU KNOW, YOU SEE KIND OF PFLUGERVILLE KIND OF HAS A PFLUGERVILLE FUN, AND CONNIE HAS THEIR TCT X SERVE.

AND AS D AS HIS FAMILY CRISIS FUND AND, UM, DELL VALLEY AND MANOR KIND OF HAVE THEIR FOUNDATIONS AND, AND UNDER PHILANTHROPY, OF COURSE, WE HAVE THE ALTOGETHER ATX SAINT DAVID'S ASCENSION SETON, YOU KNOW, AND THE EFFORTS THEY'VE TAKEN TO ADDRESS COMMUNITY NEED.

AND THEN FINALLY, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST HAVE THE THREE BIG BUCKETS.

UM, AND AGAIN, IT'S ALMOST LIKE AN OVERLAY OVER ANYTHING YOU MIGHT TALK ABOUT, BUT ONE IS ADDRESSING HEALTH AND ECONOMIC DISPARITIES, YOU KNOW, BY RACE AND ETHNICITY.

UM, HOW DO WE DO A BETTER JOB OF ADDRESSING THOSE THINGS MORE IN A HOLISTIC GROUP HOLISTICALLY OR INTEGRATED WAY? UM, LAST TIME WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT BUDGETS AND

[00:55:01]

WE TALKED ABOUT POTENTIALLY COORDINATING A COMMUNITY FACILITATING COMMUNICATION AROUND THE 20, 21 LEGISLATIVE SESSION, RIGHT? SO IS THAT SOMETHING THAT'S OF INTEREST GREAT TO, TO YOU, RIGHT.

TO KNOW WHAT PARTNERS ARE DOING AND TO SHARE WHAT YOU'RE DOING AROUND THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

AND THEN FINALLY, UM, THIS IS MORE THE SORT OF THE WEEKEND ATX IS HOW DO WE COORDINATE EFFORTS TO SERVE FAMILIES? UM, AND SORT OF, I, I ASKED ABOUT IN TERMS OF CANNES ROLE, IS IT, IS THERE, IS THERE A NEED FOR KEN TO DO MORE OF THE INFORMING PART OR THE ENGAGING PART, YOU KNOW, OF THE WORK AROUND THESE ISSUES? SO, UM, SO A LITTLE SUMMARY, AGAIN, YOU CAN GO IN THERE AND, AND KIND OF READ MORE OF THE DETAIL, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO NOT JUST TRY TO REMEMBER, BUT JUST KIND OF LIST OUT SOME OF THE KEY TOPICS AND SOME OF THE ISSUES WE KNOW ARE OUT THERE.

AND THERE'S SO MANY OF THEM THAT IT'S HARD TO REMEMBER, UM, ALL OF THEM AND HOW THEY MIGHT ALL FIT TOGETHER.

SO, UM, I'LL STOP SHARING AND SEE IF, UM, IF OUR CHAIRS OR ANYBODY WANTS TO SHARE OUT BEFORE WE GO INTO SMALL GROUPS TO TALK ABOUT, UM, TO TALK ABOUT THESE, UM, AND WE HAVE LISTS, LET ME SHARE THESE QUESTIONS, RIGHT.

THAT WE'LL BE ADDRESSING IN OUR SMALL GROUP.

UM, AND AGAIN, FEEL FREE TO KIND OF REFLECT BACK OR REFER BACK TO THAT DOCUMENT.

BUT, UH, SORT OF THE THREE PROMPTS FOR THE SMALL GROUP IS WHAT ISSUES ARE MOST PRESSING AT THIS MOMENT, YOU KNOW, GIVEN OUR HEALTH AND ECONOMIC CRISIS, UH, WHAT CHALLENGES CHALLENGES DO YOU SEE IN FOLDING IN THE NEAR FUTURE THAT WE SHOULD PREPARE FOR? AND THEN THE LAST ONE IS, UH, HOW COULD WE ALIGN RIGHT AS CAN, RIGHT? HOW COULD WE ALIGN OUR EFFORTS AROUND ADDRESSING THESE COMMUNITY NEEDS AND RELIEF EFFORTS? AND, UH, AND IS THERE ANY RESEARCH OR DATA THAT WE NEED, RIGHT.

TO HELP US MAKE THAT DETERMINATION? SO WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF BEGIN THAT CONVERSATION AND THEN WE'LL COMPILE ALL THAT FEEDBACK.

AND, UM, HOPEFULLY AGAIN, KEEP FOCUSING IN ON THESE ISSUES OR NARROWING
